Club ff1600

Most of the people who are keen to work on the UK FF1600 idea have been contacted and a meeting has been arranged for the Friday of the Autosport show. I would like to present to the working group the web part of the concept.

I would like people to donate images of FF1600's racing and anything else to get the concepts done. I don't want to use too many pictures of my car because this is not about me but all in UK FF1600 and I for some reason only have images of me!!! The site will be accessed via - www.clubff1600.co.uk. I have had one of my designers just put up a splash page to start with and you will see that I have too many pics of me!!

Any donations at the concept stage would be good - race reports from last year, photos, driver profiles etc

Cheers Redracer57

Please email me at chris@absolutemedia.co.uk or PM me

Just to add to what Chris said - I've not yet had the chance to individually contact everyone who has contacted me and who will form the 'working party'. If Friday (and it may well be early evening) is likely to prove problematic to any of you, please let me know by PM or e-mail. If too many people are ruled out, we can think about moving it but from the people I have asked we should be OK.

If anyone else is interested in offering support - particularly for contributions to the site in 2004 - please contact me.

Nice start redracer. Just a thought, Brian Roberts did all the digital photos for the BRSCCNW site. He's a nice guy and I'm sure would be happy to help with a few photo's for a mention.
Note, free BRSCC membership is for one day only so if meeting date can be confirmed ASAP it would give plenty of time to arrange.

SPEEDY77,

Thank you for your comments! As you are a client of mine you would realise how much money I would have to invest in the project and not make anything from it. It is about investing in FF1600 and not about making money.

Maybe you should try FF1600 as Britsh Gt's maybe be a big leap for you after you wrote off the Porsche GT3 at Donington earlier this year!!! (private joke everyone..!)

Just a small error but a big bang and a big bill ! roll on 2004 new car new team mate.

I have been following this with some interest and think its very postive for ff1600. Chris is the man for the job his Design team/company is excellent MUCH BETTER than his driving and I was only joking about him making a few quid from the deal it will probably cost him a few quid.

Also can I have a link/Add on the website for free ?:rotate:

Jeff Grendall at www.autoimages.co.uk has loads of Combe FF1600 photos, he takes some good photos, and would I am sure help if a link could be included in the site. Ian, check your pm's.

Verglas - have checked them, whoever you are.

Diz - not for AS or MN, just a general review I will put together for anyone who wants to use it in some form (like The Hinckley Times). If you saw the Sports and Saloon reviews in MN this week you will know exactly how close to the truth you are with that insight!

diz
6 Dec 2003, 00:11
Ian,
I don't buy MN any longer [even though I used to write for them] as I already subscribe to ASpt. Neither have much in the way of content that does it for me these days.

The only reasons I still have the subscription for ASpt. are
1. that I somehow feel I need to see what I used to consider a "trade bible" and
2. that I keep forgetting to cancel the direct debit.

You say "If you saw the Sports and Saloon reviews in MN this week you will know exactly how close to the truth you are with that insight!"

This was my original reason for posting the other thread. on FF1600 reviews in the comics :(

Ian Sowman
6 Dec 2003, 01:00
OK - some examples. They were all about the same length:

'A truly clubbie formula catering for any saloon, from highly modified to semi-roadgoing' - Peter Scherer (name that championship!). Followed by the top six in the points.

'It was a good year for the Ginettas with decent grids and close racing topped by GT-aspirant Gavin Mitchell' - Paul Lawrence. Preceded by the top six in the points.

I have a regular collection of race reviewers that have said they will cover testing/qualifying/racing from various corners at combe for every race, and jeff at www.autoimages.co.uk has photos from tons of combe and other races

I think combe will be well and truly covered. Its commitment / suggestions from other championships thats needed / wanted.

Too long for Autosport.

Needs shortening, to be more like:

'Daly won the Midlands.'

Thank you for all the emails. I have had over 25 emails with pictures and reports for the design concepts. Thanks for all the support. Got a lot on next week with a pitch for a wine company with a brand called Old Git and Old Tart..should be fun! Then I can get the design team to put together some mock ups for the meeting so we can start to put together the best website in club motorsport.

Thanks again keep looking at www.clubff1600.co.uk as we will put up more and more stuff as it is develop so everyone can see how we are getting on.

Chaps:

Just thought I'd put my head over the parapet, ready to be shot down in flames...
These forums are turning into a bit of a 'lets slag off the weeklies again', which is fair enough if you're not happy. But if someone put together a little story about what this club/website/whatever is trying to achieve and sent it to the mags, you might just get some exposure for the project, and make more drivers/teams/fans aware of what is developing.
The mags aren't perfect, but neither is anything much in real life. However, guys like Matt James at MN have a genuine passion for single-seaters, including FF1600 and I reckon if you got people like Matt on side with some info, it would be good for this movement.
Equally, how many of those bemoaning lack of coverage, have ever sent in a press release about their activities? This time of the year, news can be quite slow, so why not give it a try?
Now, in the interest of personal safety, I'm leaving the country for a couple of weeks!!!

Co-organiser Ian Sowman said "For all the interest there is a lack of co-ordinated good quality information about this particular area of the sport
It was initially envisaged that the club could provide income to set up the site but in reality it could do a great deal more than that
Working with the organising clubs we should be able to give FF1600 the profile and promotion it deserves"
A working party is expected to meet in the new year with organisers keen to hear from anyone interested in helping with the project. For further information contact ian.sowman@btopenworld.com

with arguably the best club racing there is its a shame that you boys cant be shown on tv. such as motors tv or m&m. with any coverage, even highlights sponsorship should be hell of a lot easier. i know its a long shot just a shame it cant happen, excellent entertainment and proper racing. better than watching 30 mins of gt racing lapping cars. good luck with finding sponsorship with the site.

The FA
The BLTA
The ECB
The BRSCC

All the same. Don't they realise that by getting involved, it will raise the profile of their sport. The problem is, they look at the negatives. If it does go the way of the pear, they can say it had nothing to do with them. "You have to burn your fingers now and again to check your still alive"...........

Stephen Green
4 Feb 2004, 09:46
I think the BRSCC have already done that once or twice!

MikeM
4 Feb 2004, 10:18
True, but that's been with "new and promising" series as far as I can remember. Club FF covers Kent cars that have been around since the '60's with existing (mostly) successful regional championships run by BRSCC (Do they have anything bigger overall? 180+ cars?) I understand that they may be limited in what they can do but hope that they are interested really!

Barny
4 Feb 2004, 10:48
Well if the club is strong enough it should be able to decide who promotes its races, I am sure the BARC would be interested, the Classic Register has managed to switch, although it has been kept low key.

Walshy
4 Feb 2004, 23:02
We couldnt' get away with a switch as BARC only have a handful of meetings at Oulton and the BRSCC hold the biggest slice of the cake.

I think the issue is getting them to do some promoting. I spoke to Andrew Brewer about the website and how good it is. I put some of my ideas to him about promoting the series and he agreed with me. Now, I don't know if his hands are tied or not, probably are, but it's all died down. I understand that a lot of these people have been around a lot longer than me and have tried to promote the championship before now with no luck, but it has not been done whilst I have been around. I started back in 1995. Maybe it's time to give it another go. Motor racing has come on leaps and bounds in popularity since then. I remember one Saturday last September. 4 of the 5 terrestrial channels had motorsport on mid-afternoon. You would never have got that 10 years ago. The thing is, people just watch it on TV. Most of the people I work with, didn't even know of the existance of Oulton Park until I worked with them. Those that have since been love it. All that good racing for a tenner?
