NW FF1600 Serious Thread

Feel free to run your NW FF1600 suggestions by me on this thread. I will try to answer you quickly, or once I have found out the answer. We have a good vehicle here to use to keep NW FF1600 to the forefront of the regional series.

Please try to keep it sensible, so all references to cake are forbidden, as are stereotypical slurs on my city of birth. That should keep kartingdad, jminsh and StephenRae off the thread - unless they behave themselves.

Non NW people please feel free to post.

Briefly OT - had an e-mail from Steve Burns today expressing his full support for Club FF1600 website.

OK, back to the thread.

Ian,
I just guessed you would be the first to reply. I hope this thread can serve it's purpose for the NW people, until we [you] get the National FF1600 Club / Website up and running. Then all the regions will have their own 'area of the site" to use.

I'd like to ask for a good team to run me for a race up your way incase my normal crew are busy or if there is anyone up your end who rents out a car in case mine is in bits after some combe wheel / barrier rubbing.

I'll hope to be able to run my own car up your end - but just looking at options....

Also got a calander yet for what events where ?

Also got a calander yet for what events where ? Hi Matt, John Ward is burning the midnight oil to sort out every BRSCC Championship Calendar. As soon as he lets me know, I will post it here. It isn't normally finalised until the Autosport Show.
As regards teams, look on brsccnw.com (http://) under Ian Smith Page, Getting started in FF1600. All the racehire, raceprep teams are listed there.

Koopid are building 2 VD RF04's for next season for Paul Gerrard and as Diz said Mark Chadwick. Mark is the sponsor of Pauls car (www.koopid.com) and they hope to get testing started in Feb I think.

I have got the 2001 Ginetta Champ Andy Cork to come and try single seaters and he should be doing the first 4 rounds of the NWFF Championship in Team UCLAN's Reynard 89.

darcym, a good team to race with at Oulton when you come up will be Team UCLAN. Another good person to help you out would be Dave Hart - will PM numbers if needed. Or if you don't want to bring your car up to oulton and set it up then why not hire the really nice white RF90 from the boys at Infinity Motorsport (ARDS team guys)

Chris,

With any luck my team should be able to make it up for at least one NW round. But as they all have real jobs and other commitments asking them to do more and more weekends may be a problem, so I am just looking at options. If Team ULAN feel like stepping in to the run siwft for a race if my regular guys can't make it great !. It maywell be easy for me to hire a car up your neck of the woods and just do that if I have spare cash. Don't suppose there is an RF04 going spare ;) or a yellow RF90.

Anyway, send me the numbers so I can be ready for the rounds I have spare cash for.

Do you run any double headers? I would be interested to come up for a double and make a weekend of it, that way the first race can be the test:)

Matt, Didn't have a DH at Oulton last year, but did the year before, in fact it was a triple header for Post86, as they lost a race earlier in the season. Anglesey tends to be DH.

diz
23 Dec 2003, 12:27
Matt,
He is Alan Pike. He won Class A in NW FF1600 a couple of years ago in a Swift92. As far as I know, his Zetec experience is confined to running a one off hire drive in Monoposto at an Anglesey meeting which NW FF were at. I think he might have won it.
Be advised, he likes to wind people up - as you might have already gathered. Now he has discovered TT, we will probably all suffer. Deep down he is a nice lad though.

Rude to people he's never met, tell varying degrees of information on various outings he's made, and then forgets what he's said in another thread and changes it in the next, then makes a ballsy statment that he will win the championship. (I quite like that)

Cheers Young Chris,
Where is your respect? If it is genuinely Don Truman - and you can never be certain with screen names on TT - you should refer to him as Mr Truman, or Sir.

For the younger forum members, here is a trivia fact for you :-
On 8th August 1953, the first ever car race at Oulton Park was a heat for the F3 race. The winner was a young whippersnapper from Walsall by the name of Don Truman. I wonder if the Clerk of the Couse that day said at the briefing " ..... and Formula 3, not today please gentlemen"
If it is you Mr Truman, welcome to TT and what does "sticks" mean?

The dates for SoM are nearly confirmed, 11 rounds over 8 race meetings. Starts mid/end of March and finishes early October, (prior to Festival and Walter Hayes). John Ward has been working into the dark hours trying to ensure that we have zero clashes. Dates will be confirmed at Autosport Show.

It will be great to race at a mixture of SoM and NW events where possible. (sorry, and Coombe and South also)

I think the calendar is more or less done, but we are being kept in suspense.
Pity we only seem to get one round on the proper circuit every year. WHY?????????

seeing as this is suppossed to be a serious thread and the BRSCC are always saying they need to make money out of a meeting .
Historicaly every time we have a meeting on the long (proper)circuit all sorts of cars seem to apear from the woodwork and tend to get nearing full grids for both races .
When i started in the champion of Oulton in 1993 we had about 8 races on the proper track and 3 on the poxy little one, i always seem to remmeber good grids then .
Can't they (BRSCC) work out it will be better for them , the competitor and the spectators if more races were on the right track

Somewhere in this topic there might be some interesting information about FF1600. However, I can't seem to find any of it because it seems to have been lost in all the friendly chatter about Christmas presents and some of the in-jokes.

The only conclusion I can draw is that FF1600 isn't worth bothering with after all. Reading this thread it just seems to be a massive crashfest involving a load of drivers of varying ages and lots and lots of skidding into gravel traps.

Suzy, if you want interesting information on FF1600 wait until early next year and the launch of www.clubff1600.co.uk. There will be a lot of serious stuff (and some fun things as well, I hope) on there, this is where everyone can let their hair down - if they have any - in among some slightly more relevant discussion.

As it happens, I was well-aware of Mika during his FF1600 days. Re-read my post and you may realise that I was having a laugh too by commenting on it being a "crashfest" - after all, there have been comments about being pulled out of gravel traps; just joining in with the general atmosphere. Vector changed hands recently and Mallock now do all the spares. The TF94, or was it the MG94, is a damned good car.

I think the car is up for sale but not being promoted very much!! I think that if he sells it he will still do the odd race next year in one of Kevins FF. So as far as I gather he is not retiring just yet!

Sadly, the Hutch RF90 is for sale. I received the following email from him today. As we can't advertise on TT, PM me for his contact details. No price was stated.
diz

Would somebody please buy my car so I can stop racing.

Can be sold as roller
with engine
with engine and stack (dash & data)

Last time out Combe in October suffered a damaged corner (set the fastest lap of the Year on previous lap) Kevin is replacing the corner so car wil be sold in race winning condition.

If engine is bought it's ready for a winter rebuild (to be safe) with Neil Bold.

The car has won 30 races in the last 4 seasons, winning back to back championships at Combe 2000 & 2001 and Opal North West 2002 & 2003 and whilst never the best looking car no expense spared to remain fast and reliable.

Just wondering,

If a seeded driver, such as stuart wants to do a one of race, would he be intitled to use his seed from last year, no.2 or because somebody else has registered the number would he have to use an alternative?

p.s. have a look at www.stuartgough.co.uk

Its the site have just built for Stuart. The things i do for him!!

diz
19 Feb 2004, 00:28
It depends whether the registered holder of No.2 is entered for that round. If not, no problem.

Don't think much of the web site. I couldn't find any mention of your teams 3rd place in the Charity Karting

19 Feb 2004, 00:36
Well, were keeping that result low key..... but I have to say, if I hadnt made a bad call on the pit stop where we lost two laps, and then when dad pitted it would have helped if I had gloves ready instead of waitng for him to take off his gloves before I could put them on, loosing us a further 30-40 seconds we would have EASILY won!!! However, because of these faux pars, we have chosen to exclude it from the sites news section.

Thanks for the info on the numbers diz.

how about Diz scans in the commentator info sheet and e mails it to all competitors, or make it downladable from the brscc nw web page. This way, we can fill it in on our computers in word or somthing by drawing out text boxes where relevant to fill in, print out and give to sproket in clear readable, spell checked english?

Then the file it idea can be used as mentioned by someone in an earlier post?

I am very pleased for Stuart Gough, he is obviously a very talented driver to achieve what he has against a lot of competative drivers, but is it just me or are these threads filled with messages from karting dad and jnr jnr stating the stuart gough can do no wrong - nothing appears to be Stu's fault or a mistake by stu (apart from when he openly says so himself).

We are obviously all pleased that Stu is progressing and like to think - that in some small way - the NW FF1600 scene has helped him.
Now kartingdad is another kettle of fish. He is the typical father [as his screen name denotes]. If Stu was playing local football and not racing, kd would be creating havoc on the touchline. But you are right about tongue in cheek. kd loves to 'stir things up' and probably has his tongue further implanted in his cheek than most posters on TT.
JnrJnr is just sticking up for his big brother and is hoping to emulate him on track this season.

Just to complicate matters, kd has a nasty habit of jumping onto one of the kids PCs' and posting under their names. Too idle to log in himself.

Afraid to say there was plenty of damage. It actually cracked the block and the bell housing!!!

With everything being carbon fibre its all expensive stuff to replace. Teach me to make a mistake again!

Had it not gone over so slow I'm sure we would of got away with it better. Good news, however, is we will be out at Brands next week.

blue nose
5 Mar 2004, 00:07

5 Mar 2004, 00:14
Awesome. Amazing power, grip and braking. The amount of poke they have out of the corners is the biggest thing. You can really feel the downforce working. Very enjoyable to drive and very challenging. You can really attack with confidence and we are not that much slower then a F3 which is pretty impressive.

Walshy
5 Mar 2004, 00:43
Hi Stu.

I heard the engines in those things really are cheap as chips to buy. Jes Unsworth said you don't rebuild, you just replace.

How's the braking?

goughy
5 Mar 2004, 00:50
Not sure how much they are but you have them on a lease contract from Renault Sport. When you take one to be rebuilt they give you another one back straight away if you want.

You can go very deep into the corners and just slam down the box and its so stable with its-impressive stuff.

Walshy
5 Mar 2004, 01:05
Glad your enjoying it anyway. Even if some of it has been upside down....................
How did it manage to crack the bell at such low speed though? Did the car come down on it?

kartingdad
5 Mar 2004, 11:55
Looking at the damage, and not wishing to hero worship my son Darcym, part of the damage may have occured when when the marshalls dropped the car after tipping it up to let Stu out. Apparently it came down with a heck of a thud.
The rear of the car is not supported as in a FF, but soley by the engines blocks attachment to the bulkhead.

The whole accident was a bit unfortunate really.

I am not pointing fingers or moaning, just saying what happened.
