4thgear 22 Jan 2004, 13:46 Pretty much the same theme as the other thread, but for the other Championships. Just wondering what peoples opinions are for the people who will be at the front in the Combe, Midlands and possible Southern. Obvious choices are last years front runners but there must be people who could be outsiders for wins and a high finish. and old faces returning to these championships now FF1600 is quite high profile again.
GolddustMini 22 Jan 2004, 19:11 there gonna be won by a car of some description with mebe an engine manufactured by ford... there could possibly be a driver in the car as well...
thats my prediction and im sticking to it!
4thgear
It looks like SFFC, SOM and CCFF peeps can't be bothered to get involved in this thread.
Pity.
I would have expected at least one reply from the 'birthday boy', but he is probably too busy eating all his Mars Bars Selection boxes.
Come on Justin Dawkins, where are you? If not you JD, what about young Ian Sowman - your publicity machine!
Think Justin is away skiing, so a peaceful week :)
in answer to the thread, suppose it'll be the same front runners unless there are any new faces? anyone know the main contenders at Combe this year? seems every year they lose a front runner.
4thgear 27 Jan 2004, 18:17 your right Diz, seems the Midland/southern boys arent interested in banter like the Northern lot.
Never really hear from the Combe lot on this site do you. do they have computers down that way?

why do i get the feeling your still giggling at that one :)
Darcym a combe boy, also jadlam....gone quiet though....
JustinDawkins 27 Jan 2004, 22:20 Hi guys,
I am indeed on holiday, but couldn´t stau away for too long without rading the cake-muncher´s nonesense!:D
This season will be interesting, spesh because Mr Wills can do every round hs year! Its gointo be a close season I think between the front runners, we shall see.
Diz you better have tat beer fr be at the anglesea DH´er!
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply JD. It took a while to decipher your post. Are the Mars Bars 9.0% volume over there?
poor lad not used to them strong choc bars. fancy being on holiday, on your birthday and being in an internet cafe at! somethink aint right there!
Front runners @ combe this year, in my opinion.
Ed Moore
Andrew Harris
Paul Barnes
Andrew Jones
I think Nick Jones will be the man to beat in B class
These names are only my opinion judged by who raced last year and who has CONFIRMED they will race this year.
ooh yes, and now that the cars sorted....me ;)
who's Kevin running this year then?
may come and have a play in the swift too, if i can get the engine sorted :)
Not sure who Kevins running, I gues the regular Paul Barnes/Nick Jones but the drive in his swift and a new RF04 Kent is advertised in autosport.
I'm hoping a few new racers from other tracks, or maybe a few old hands who have been away will turn up. Those sort of races made the best races last year. The non-championship even with Kevin Mills and Robin Parsons was a great race to watch/take part in, and the Carnival with the Hutch and a few others returning was another great race.
4thgear 28 Jan 2004, 16:56 Barnes still racing!!? wow. well at least there will be the shunts still up front. if thats the front runners Ed should walk it, with barnes the next closest, but can honestly see them taking each other off. after that its anyones guess. think they need some fast people there. wheres everyone gone from years back?
Such as ?
There are others but as I said only those who have CONFIRMED they will be racing
4thgear 28 Jan 2004, 17:55 nah thats cool, i know. too early really to see who's doing it. thought people would know people etc.
what happened to higgins, Axford, Ashley, Rivett, Ames?
higgins only raced a few races last year but promised to turn up for loads (according to CC race programs) so I don't know, he ran at the front but only did 2 races I think.
Axford won the championship and said he'd retire but may do the odd race here and there, Ashly won the 2002 championship and retired. Not seen or heard anything of him scince. Rivett is on the forum and is racing all around the UK this year, he should create some good races around the uk, Ames said he was doing Zetec this year or "something" else.
planning to do a few rounds there myself. be good to meet up with some of the old faces again.
hopefully i can remember how to drive it, its right at camp isnt it not straight on....
and the brake is in the middle of the 3
Ian Sowman 29 Jan 2004, 15:39 Seeing as you asked (a few days ago) Diz - my contribution to the thread.
SOM prediction:
1 Gavin Wills
2 Peter Daly
3 Justin Dawkins
Few reasons why Gavin will win this year. First, he can do all the races; second, he's got more experience with the car now, so set-up should be closer to perfect, especially in the wet; third, Daly is bound to have a DNF/non-podium finish (only one in 16 races last year!).
Each of the top three will win races.
4thgear 29 Jan 2004, 15:50 he has a long way to go to be perfect in the wet. cant start, and cant stop. struggles in them conditions, Daly will take any wet wins. other than them 3 are there any outsiders who could prove to be a suprise?
Anyone know anyone doing the SFFC apart from JohnM? anyone of any note down there?
mattray 29 Jan 2004, 16:50 Richard Misters
Ian Sowman 29 Jan 2004, 17:24 I did say closer to perfect... and actually it seemed to me that until he slithered off track Gavin went reasonably well in the WHT final (admittedly not as well as Peter).
As for 'surprises' - I guess some of the visitors could spring one - Mr Rivett possibly, Ed Moore if he makes the trip up...
It'll be good racing at all tracks this year I think.
FF1600 seems to have got a real enthusiasm about it this year and towards the end of last year that I have not seen scince I started racing.
If I'm not racing, and don't have the cash to race at another circuit that week too I may even drive down to watch the odd event or two.
Is going to be a good one. like you its money which is a shame because i really was starting to go well in the new car. this year im going to have to use last years tyres, and siphon the petrol out the girlfriends car! so mattray in the same boat as you. but yeah am doing the champion of brands series with a couple of midland and combe rounds, thats the plan im working towards anyway. unless brands fees go up then i aint doing any.
So Matt(d) you not got budget on the whole series? or just playing it by ear?
at the present time I have budget for the combe season and the Brands Hatch KOK. So unless something terrible happens I should be ok for that.
I "think" I'll be able to squeeze in a North West round (probably a double header) and a SOM round or two...depends on cash/tyres/damage/engine/work/house/road car/girlfriend etc etc.
If my sponsor confirms soon I'll be %100 for the year and maybe able to do more, but as it stands only combe is %100
If I am going bad at combe I may start missing a round or two and do some more circuits.
cool, so a full championship! sounds good hope the sponsorship comes off.
define bad?
does anyone know the entry fee's yet, combe was 165 and brands 190. is this still the case or do we get a reduction for the amount of moaning we did!
Matt, im more and more tempted to do the combe champ. least there will be people to race whereas SFFC there me and 4 others. yet again i dont know if that will change this year. anyway target is combe on the 27th march and see how it goes.
JustinDawkins 29 Jan 2004, 23:30 Sorry chaps, was a little worse for ware on that kast post!
What I was trying to get at was that it wil be cose. Donñt count out Nathan Freke, Matt Rivett and that Misters bloke n their occasional visits.
Rich - snow is good! :D
mattray 30 Jan 2004, 17:25 So what is Mr Freke going to be doing? he should be going fast by the begining of the year! was Silverstone his first race in a 1600? century, your his dad arent you? remember me? whats Nathan going to be doing??
Ian Sowman 30 Jan 2004, 18:17 I believe Nathan is doing SOM but may be misinformed. His first FF1600 race was Boxing Day '02, then did WHT and Boxing Day '03. Silverstone was definitely the high point so far...
Nick Hewitt is entering all races, we also welcome back Trevor Cooper after a year in ARP F3.
Championship should be wide open and very busy!
Ian Sowman 30 Jan 2004, 23:02 In that case Nick in particular will be a force to be reckoned with. Looks like SoM will be the strongest regional championship again this year :)

Words
Fail
Me :banghead:
OLD DOG 31 Jan 2004, 01:39 Ian You should look towards the NW championship which in my mind has always been the strongest championship by far.
Im really suprised none of you have mentioned Jon Lanceley or Charlie Watt in this thread - come on you guys youve got to recognise the true talent out there. Jon Lanceley blew them all away at Combe last year with Charlie not far behind. Charlie could well be competing this year if so my money`s on him.
I raced at combe all last year and don't remember seeing Charlie Watt or Jon Lanceley racing at all ??? can't have been that "blowing away"
What series did they race in ?
mattray 31 Jan 2004, 16:51 They were doing Zetecs Matt. SFF I believe.
ahhh so one race @ combe which they didn't win....I'd hardly call that blowing people away.
Kevins Zetec Driver one the championship I think.
dantley 25 May 2004, 11:15 Haha, Maybe because in typical CC style the black flagged ME Jon from the lead by mistake after another driver knocked down the bollards at the chicane !! thankyou, not saying I blew PPL away but did drive from the back of the grid to beat Kevins Driver who tried to take me out and Josh webber and all this with damage after being rammed off the line by Kevins other drivers who when he saw me along side on the run up to avon rise looked at me and then turned straight into me,
6 months later and ive randomly found this thread but it
P!$$eS me off when people dont know all the facts yet still post cr@p like that above, i'd never ask anyone to big me up as Artie has above but I see no reason for people to get on the defensive..
Ahh so one race !!! yes DARCYM, only my second race in 18months and then followed up by the second race.. had I not had damage I would have the lap record aswell as I was a good 1.4 seconds under it in testing..
