Pros and cons of your car.

Well Sparky's thread of "Top Ten signs you've bought a cheap car".....well....I guess that there's something you love and you don't like so much about your car. So what is it??

For me....I have a 96 Peugeot 205 GRi with 48000km which is like the european accent.

Pros.
-Fuel economy....oh my god!! I'm always bragging about the car's fuel economy with my friends.
-Very little maintenance needed and almost no repairs so far.
-Performance. For a 1.1L engine the car performs very well. And the brakes and suspension are very good as well.
-Size. I can park it almost anywhere.
-Stereo...I have a Pioneer with CD player and equalizer...and it sounds so nice...
-Service....I've been hearing a lot of bad comments about peugeot dealers worldwide....but the few time's I've had to visit them....they just can't do enough for me.
-Comfortable. The ride is very smooth and although the steering is not assisted....it's not very hard.

Cons.

-The gap between first and secong gear is too big and when your climbing you have to rev it up a lot in first gear to be able to hold it in second.....but from that point on the gears develop nicely.
-The inner adjustment is not very good and the doors and the console tend to make a lot of noise....specially in rough terrains.
-It would be nice if you could adjust the steering wheel's position as the fixed position does not favour tall drivers.

So....I guess that's about it. What about yours?

Great idea for a post. I don't really want to pull rank but my motorcycle has a larger engine than your Pug! Does 240 odd Klm/hr, handles like a dream and at that speed no one can hear you scream!

By now we all know I drive a Pug 306 1.9 DTurbo...

Quick for a Diesel
Reasonably cheap to run
Group 5 insurance :eek:

Against:
Nothing really. I just hate the fact that it takes as long to clean the brake dust off the alloys as it does to clean the whole rest of the car. But that's not the car's fault

Pros:
Value for money
No one else can buy a new one now :)
performance (nice to be able to just drive away from idiots)
colour
highway fuel economy

Cons:
performance (already cost me)
city fuel economy
running costs, not that they're expensive but I keep wanting to drive it
handling, while quite good, isn't exactly great

Well first let me say that Sharky is always talking about his car so I couldīnt figure why he didnīt posted this earlier.

Since I donīt have my own car, Iīm goingtotalk about the one I drive(momīs)
Mitsubishi lancer 1.4L
Pros:
Gains speed really fast.
Very smooth to drive.
Huge economy on the road.

Cons:
Too big for a 1.4.
A little underpowered.
Hard to park.
Petrol is very expensive.
City fuel economy.

1987 Ford Falcon XF

Pros: still looking
Cons: Its a ford
side note: anyone want to buy a car ???


1989 VN Holden Commodore

Pros: Its a Holden
Great acceleration
Cruise control
T bar auto
reasonable fuel economy

Cons: managed to damage cooling system during trip to Queensland.
and was a lovely target for another car while parked
looks to much like a family car

'93 Range Rover (Classic-shape)

Pro's

Great driving position i.e. High - and consequently I think a little safer and more robust if it were in an accident (God forbid)
Not a fast car,therefore I drive more sedately = less chance of speeding tickets!
Great for towing allsorts of heavy trailers.
Good in the mud and snow.
Alot of car for the money.
New tyres only Ģ50 quid each!
Extra seats in the boot-great for all the kids.
Heated seats , but best gadget award goes to the heated windscreen for those frosty mornings-they should be made compulsory.

Cons.....

Very thirsty.
Electrics often play up - I've long given up with the sunroof ......
Depreciation has been rapid and painful.
Very,very thirsty.
Big when you are trying to park in the High street or those silly little supermarket spaces.
Oh yes and did I mention the dreadful fuel economy....

He he h. Just kidding. I've seen a few bikes like that one. They seem to be pretty fast....and the sound they make....well...Although I'm a car buff I maust say that they sound so nice.

I have to formulate a thread where I can convince people to buy motorcycles and give up their cars. At least the second care that they use for work. Why be a car buff when for far less money you can have five times the fun?

1989 lhd bmw 316i

pros
- good looking
- good on fuel
- harrier jump jet steering. parks in spaces with a foot and a half moving space.
- massive boot. will take bicycle.
- little flashing light attached to alarm system.
- gold in colour - doesn't show dirt. much
- no power steering. easier to drive with your knees when you're having a drink on the motorway.
- top speed 110mph. or so i'm told... ;)
- only done 70,000 miles. allegedly.

cons
- not so good on fuel in traffic
- aerodynamic qualities of a brick in a side wind. gusted around all over the road.
- 1st gear too short.
- needs a 6th gear.
- and a 2.5 litre engine.
- colour manky. nice if it were black.
- brown interior. yuck.
- pants stereo. user too tight to buy a new one.
- 2 speakers. 2?!
- 112,000 km's on the clock. allegedly.

i still love her to bits, though. :rotate:

Pros:
Handling/performance
Size
Power (wooohooooo!)
Colour (excellent dark blue/black)
Wheels (original GTS)
Interior/space
Consumption (for a fully worked original red 308 - I cant complian, maybe spend $30 a week, which isnt bad)

Cons:
Maintaining the body - repairs for rust, brats that scratch keys down it, ass**oles who steal badges and wheel caps, inconsiderate touch parkers etc etc etc etc...

Well Amoffat. I'm still not quite sure about the bike....you're too close to mother nature in one of those things. Besides....bikes don't have stereos....and....mhhhh...all these are pretty stupid excuses but I just love cars....don't know why but I just do....wouldn't have it any other way.

Oh and Kuchi. This thread is for those of us who own their own car. Driving your mom's car doesn't count. If that was the case I would also talk about my dad's Renault 19 RSi which I drive every friday. So Until you buy that 78 Renault 4 or whatever it is you're supposed to buy leave us "public transportation free people" alone. :p

Just thought I'd throw in a few pros and cons on my previous vehicle, especially as it was an older version (sort of) to my current detailed above.

1991 Nissan Pulsar GL (Aus built)

Pros:
4 wheels
I didn't own it, only drive it

Cons:
I still had to pay for fuel
made you look for 6th gear at 90km/h
handling
acceleration
braking
build quality

Only one other pro was that a little over a year ago now, someone ran up the back of the car and a fair amount of other damage was fixed under insurance and gained maybe $1000 on the trade in because of it.

Cheap parts + good dealer network
Excellant handling in the dry, power slides possible

Con Insurance
Slight Turbo lag below 3000 RPM
Tyres at Ģ120 + each
Windscreen at Ģ600, covered by insurance thankfully
Lack of handling in the wet.

Moff' I'm much to unco to ride a bike, i'd fall off frequently, i can't even drive around Lakeside without hitting stuff. Diabando, I love your car, i don't even have to see it to know i love it. :)

Very ordinary handling/ride (thanks to leaf sprung live axle)
Very thirsty, lucky I don't pay for fuel
Very big - difficult to park in tight spaces
