GBaxter 10 Sep 2004, 09:16 If money wasn't a limitation and someone else was paying, what'd be your ideal minimum V8 model of Jap, Aus, or Euro modified (non-Formula 1) car that you'd most love to own (describing the desired engine specs, body, paintwork, interior, etc.), for practical normal everyday driving, for non-professional racing, or for both.
Dani Filth 10 Sep 2004, 10:40 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale . V8 2l +200BHP .. :D .. red .. of course :D
A McLaren F1 road car would do nicely. Extreme performance, and still room for passengers.
dubby99 10 Sep 2004, 12:05 Try and convert the Penske Porsche into a road car and leave it in qualifying spec.
The engine used was a 12 cylinder air-cooled opposed piston turbo unit.
It has a top speed of 385kph (240mph) and can accelerate from 0-200kph (125mph) an 5.3 seconds.
Thats my ideal everyday roadcar if i had the money.
Blimey. Minimum V8... Not sure where to start really.
You listed Jap, Aus or Euro, but I'm going to cheat blatantly...
A Corvette C5R, in full 2004 GM Le Mans trim, 5.7 V8 (or was it bored to 6.0 in the C5R?), I guess running 600+ bhp, top speed around 300kph. Preferably not the one that got bounced down the Armco on Mulsanne...
And my dream road car - a Lamborghini Murcielago in orange.
And a silver Porsche Carrera GT.
And a fully Mulliner'd Bentley Arnage T in smoke silver with the very best available natural (i.e. treated not dyed) buffalo hide upholstery and complementary dark wood trim... perfectly "adequate" power and torque... and it would be far too common to discuss performance...
And that Penske Porsche sounds like fun... :D

Aysedasi 10 Sep 2004, 14:52 Of course, everyone in the sportscar forum knows that I'd love to have a BMW M3............ (and I would too.....!).
But a McLaren F1 would do. Even better would be the Toyota GTOne road car....... :)
Aysedasi 10 Sep 2004, 14:53 BTW, what's the minimum V8 thing all about?
Bluebottle 10 Sep 2004, 18:04 Bentley EXP8
:)
Caterham Seven R500, failing that, a Japanese GT-spec Skyline....or NSX......or Supra.
Yes, what is with the "no less than 8" stipulation?
Rules out the E-Type, any straight-six Aston, all vintage Bentleys, all of which are on my ultimate drive list.
Ah well, if an eight it has to be, then put me down for a mid-eighties Aston Martin V8 Vantage. I could live with one of those.
I want a 2001 Audi S4 with the European spec RS4 engine in it. Of course I can't have that since it's a V6. Hmm... Don't really want a new S4. Maybe I'll settle for a current DTM spec A4, only one with two front and a back seat. And some form of trunk space.
Nah, give me that twin-turbo V6 any day.
SALEEN S7R 11 Sep 2004, 01:01 BMW M3 GTR ;) Just kiddy Ayse, no itd have to be the new Maserati MC12. :)
rdjones 12 Sep 2004, 11:08 It would have to be the new Aston Martin DB9 in British Racing Green of course.....

Ok, I changed my mind. I want a new Aston Martin AMV8. That's a sweet machine. Meets the V8 requirement too.
ensign14 23 Sep 2004, 23:27 Aston Martin DBR3. The model that won Le Mans in 1959.
Or a 250 GTO.
kingfloopy 24 Sep 2004, 04:38 I missed the V8 requirement the first time around. I still stick by the Ford RS200 as my ultimate car, but it I had to stick to the V8 requirement I'd have to say my car of choice would be a Hemi Plymouth Superbird.
J.D.
DAVID PATERSON 24 Sep 2004, 06:18 I would like a Bathurst 1000 winning Commodore V8 Supercar.
It would have to be a Bowler Wildcat, a 4wd off road super car would be just the ticket !!!

GTRMagic 6 Nov 2004, 07:35 Its an Australian thing... some fans of the Ford marque believe the GT HO Falcon with the 351 cubic inch (or 5.8L) of ohv technology, drum brakes all round, and 12 slot rims, is the best car ever produced by the Ford Motor Company in Australia... if not the world.
The GT has a spec of engine, the HO has a spec of suspension tune.
They had different variations of engine and suspension tune in different "Phases", for the change in model between the XT & XY, the first being a Phase I, second Phase II, third a Phase III (the most revered from all accounts) while there is a Phase IV but the Supercar scare, and oil crisis of the early 1970's killed it... Each "Phase" had a higher level of go faster goodies, all designed to win the Bathurst 500 mile race each year..
35 years old cars defining a marque, and still lusted after.... with a motor manufacturer attempting to release new models of the same brand, but not the same raw speed...
Sounds funny coming from a Holden man, but...
Not drum brakes all round. Not in any Falcon GT, even the original XR. Also, the 'Phase' GTs started with the XW, not the XT. Phase 1 in the XW, Phase 2 and 3 in the XY, and the still-born Phase 4 in the XA (but only two that I know of were ever made).
(Code-mode now 'OFF'.) Sorry, ASCII 'bout the encryptions.
Just noticed. Post 350 for me. Good number for a Holden person. I'll have to skip my next post.
I had to come back with 'Post 351' just to correct myself. Phase 1 AND 2 in the XW, Phase 3 in the XY.
Sorry again, ASCII.
I had to come back with 'Post 351' just to correct myself. Phase 1 AND 2 in the XW, Phase 3 in the XY.
Also there were 4 Phase IV's produced.

Daimlerman 9 Dec 2004, 12:49 Forget all your modern stuff!
Its got to be an original D Type Jaguar
You see, I'd have to make a custom car.
The engine could be a 2.65 liter twin turbo V8 like the ones used in CART in the nineties, 900 hp.
Then we could stick that into a rally car's frame, because I'd like my car to be able to go everywhere, asphalt, mud, etc.
And it should have just two seats, no roof, and sidepods and wings...
Some kind of all-road Champ Car, then!

You know I've been thinking about this. If I had to choose just one car, money no object, to do everything I wanted. It'd be a Range Rover. Simple as that. No point having some impractical supercar that you'll barely ever get out of third gear and will spend two weeks every month being fixed or serviced. Have something you can use, that's got all the comforts you could possibly need, and can go just about anywhere.
It's quite handy for towing race cars too...
Just one? Oh bother. then I would be forced to get that Aston martin that ran in le Mans and was valued at US$7m. Then I'd sell it and buy an F40, M5 a Citröen DS and I would buy one of those 60's Mercedes Benz trucks that had all wheel traction. Don't ask me but I consider them to be a thing of beauty.

Number Juan 29 Dec 2004, 00:00 i would own...and this may sound strange...but i would REALLY LOVE to own my ex-girlfriend's Dad's Mondeo. it's an S-Reg Mondeo Ghia, really sexy, masculline looking car with the meshed air filters, sporty skirts and small rear wing. its got a 2.6l Petrol V6 pumping out approximately 170bhp...he's a police officer, and has given me a lift home from a train station in the middle of nowhere (damn Southern trains!), we drove along a rather deserted A-Road doing 140mph quite easily. the acceleration of the thing is pretty amazing for such a big car, but once it gets past 4,000rpm, it sounds beastly!!!
if i did own it though, i would like to get a race-filter, maybe fit a few righteous parts that would make it fly ;)
the Porsche 917 is fantastic though...apparently it was the only car that Mr. Fittipaldi was actually scared of driving...what a car!!!
Number Juan 29 Dec 2004, 00:18 sorry to double-post, but on the Porsches, i saw a silver Porsche Carrera GT running along the middle lane of a rather desolate M25 (a sacrelige if you ask me), me and my petrol-headed mate came across it in my 1000cc Rover Mini Metro at about a ton (unbelievable, but yes, i can do it ;) ) and we looked at this beast with absolute astonishment...we both egged the rather sharp-designer laden toff in the car to drop a cog and show us this car in it's real light...after a lot of hand gesturing and confusion initially, he did and the sound was amazing...we were literally dribbling...i can't believe i actually saw a car like this. i've seen some amazing cars driving around-like a GT40 (must've been an original) in gulf colours blast past me on the road to Brighton, and, even Mr. Jay Kay in one of his cars (i think it was an old, but sexy red Lambo)...but this car was just untruly amazing!
wouldn't like to own it though. unlike a sexy 60s car that has respect, me thinks that the Carerra GT is a car that would be spat on with un-nerving regularity whilst quietly parked up around town. this thing would never happen to a GT40, a DB5 or of course, a Jaguar E-Type (i want one of those)...the Carerra GT looks just a little...i don't know how to put it...but just a little...too contrived. it's certainly not a sexy car, but it's a good looking car. the only comprehensible example i can muster is that when you're in a Bar, and some really good looking woman saunters by your table and all your mates start saying "she is fine"...you kinda just look perplexed and think to yourself that undoubtedly she's got everything you look for in a lady, very good looking, dark hair, very good body and great clothes...but she just doesn't float your boat. The Porsche Carrera GT is much like that situation. it's got the magnificent engineering, design and performance you would expect from a Porsche supercar, but its not a car you drool over. its not like, for instance, a Jaguar E-type where you think: "well, it's brakes, tyres, suspension etc are a bit old, out-dated compared to what i can get now...but OH MY GOD..."...nuff' sed.
Logrence 29 Dec 2004, 17:26 I'd get someone to convert an Aston DB9 into some sort of GT estate just because I can.
Original GT40, Gulf colours, and oh yeah, eyesight decent enough for a driving licence...
