All-time favourite car?DAVID PATERSON 5 Jan 2001, 14:10 Well, my golden years thread didn't raise much of a discussion so let's be more specific this time. What was you all time favourite rally car? MichaelC 5 Jan 2001, 14:57 Without question, from the Group B days the Audi Quattro. Although the Metro 6R4 was kind of cool ;) KC 5 Jan 2001, 15:10 A single favorite is very hard to choose as I have three... 1. Lancia Stratos HF: This must the coolest looking machine ever devised for rally. Love the shape and that engine note. 2. Mini Cooper S: "The little car that could" and did take on the best of the larger cars and win. Greatest underdog car. 3. Renault Alpine: Another car with a lovely shape and a winning pedigree. marcus 5 Jan 2001, 15:54 the Audi Quattro thingy was one heck of a car ..but I found it just plain ugly. Toyota celicas are pretty nice cars but I love little Ford escorts and they made great rally cars..of the modern brigade Subaru WRX is the best looking in my view. GURRYP 5 Jan 2001, 18:29 Here goes Old timer: Ford Escort RS1800 Group B: MG Metro 6R4 WRC: Subaru WRC :rotate: Larsen 5 Jan 2001, 21:20 i believe the group b cars like the Audi Quatro and Lancia SL 5 Jan 2001, 22:34 It's not often I venture into this muddy forum but I do agree with KC. Lancia Stratos Mini Cooper Although for 3rd I would prefer the RS Escort, mainly for the antics of Roger Clark. Simon Sparky 6 Jan 2001, 00:23 Ooh! I'll have one of those... http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~ZQ5M-SKT/orx777f.jpg ...And one of those... http://leden.tref.nl/~eric.jan/Car02.jpg :rotate: :) :rotate: (Gentlemen, I think we have a concensus!) SL 6 Jan 2001, 00:33 Well almost, The Escort needs to be covered in mud, grime, oil and s**t and going sideways. But close SL DAVID PATERSON 6 Jan 2001, 10:07 Noone's picked the Datsun 1600 (P510) :( (David walks away quietly sobbing). Sparky 6 Jan 2001, 12:14 I say, those 510's are quite smart, aren't they? http://www.datascribe.com.au/ozdatonline/featurecars/PeterFormosa/burnout4_1.jpg (Sorry David!) ;) DAVID PATERSON 6 Jan 2001, 12:32 Sparky, I leeerrrrve that Datsun pic, please tell me what you can about it. That Mk I Escort is also very sweet, looks like a car that was previously owned by my car club president, before he went off the rails and bought a BMW. :) DAVID PATERSON 6 Jan 2001, 12:40 Well I can't pick just one because it wouldn't surprise anybody so I'll do a short list too. Classics - Datsun 1600 :) Group B - tied decision, Audi Quattro & Puegeot 205 Group A - Subaru Impreza WRX Sparky 6 Jan 2001, 15:32 David, you can read all about Peter Formosa's lil' old Datto here! (http://www.datascribe.com.au/ozdatonline/featurecars/PeterFormosa/peter_formosa.htm) elephino 7 Jan 2001, 11:38 Grp B - also a tie between the Audi quattro and Peugeot 205 T16. Grp A - Subaru Impreza WRX WRCars - Ford Focus Best cheat (just wanted to mention it) - Toyota Team Europe with the Celica and the turbo :) jarama 7 Jan 2001, 11:48 Hi, guys, I've been away for a (long) while, but I'm back... Between my all-time fav' cars, my first pick would be the Lancia Stratos, for its looks and magical sound. The second, for sheer performances and lots of power, the Lancia Delta S4. GURRYP 7 Jan 2001, 12:08 Surely if your going to break the rules & cheat, the idea is not to get caught ?? So the best cheats are still out there somewhere ?? Larsen 7 Jan 2001, 15:05 I believe the Skoda Octavia is nice. Not really, it has to be the Peugeot 206 WRC Arska 8 Jan 2001, 09:56 Classics: Mini Cooper S (do I have to explain...?) Group A: Ford Sierra Cosworth (like it sideways...) Group B: MG Metro 6R4 (sounds like rally car to me) WRC: Peugot 206 (Mini Cooper with 4wd) elephino 8 Jan 2001, 12:10 I redifine to best known cheat :) Zep 10 Jan 2001, 00:49 Group B: Audi Quattro S1 & Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2 Group A: Toyota Celica GT-Four(ST185) WRC: Peugeot 206 WRC & Subaru Impreza WRC 2000 Warwick 10 Jan 2001, 07:10 I cant tell you the model, but the cars that most impressed me were a pair V8 Mercedes, that the works team bought to NZ to compete in the Heatwave rally of the late seventies, I can still remember taking the day off school to watch these things, and still have the photo's in my album, for a snotnosed schoolboy these things were like seeing something from another planet! bobdrummond 12 Jan 2001, 18:53 Lancia Delta S4 Alpine Renault Subaru WRC jarama 14 Jan 2001, 18:23 Warwick, You mean the 500SLC, driven to 3rd and 5th position of the '80 NZ Rally by Mikkola and Waldegaard. |
