Flux, Ian

Anyone any memories of Fluxie. I've never known or met him, but I always liked him from the outside. He seemed to go very well in a huge variety of cars from FVee/F3/FAtlantic/Thundersports/Saloons and so on.

I had the impression he is a real character too, and a genuine lover of the sport. I'm sure there are many good stories about him.

Anyone ???

He is a fantastic bloke and a good friend. Known him a lot of years now. He was best man at Tiff's wedding.
Seen him race so many different cars and if you turn up at a test - say mid-week Wednesdays at Mallory, chances are he will be out there in something.
He was a mechanic for Graham Hill - see the latest Motor Sport for a track test - Fluxie in the car he used to spanner on.
I remember an F3 race at Donington in '78. Piquet and Warwick on the front row, Ian was back on the 4th row or something in the days of 3-2-3 grids. The red light came on...Fluxie went! He was miles ahead by Redgate but backed off. He should have kept his boot in as all he got was a 10 secong penalty!
Awesome in Sports 2000, the F.Atlantic & F3 Ehrlichs etc.
Deserved a better break really but seems content with his lot.

Fluxie is mega, a great mate, always the man to speak to to help develop a car. Although a non believer in no droop he always likes our cars.

I just love the way he is just like the old school drivers, smoking a fag in the garage, talking to me while im refueling the car. That kinda thing.

Loved his sticker "For Flux Sake" It adorned my motor racing brief case for many a year.
Only met him briefly, via a friend, many years ago, but he has always said hello when our paths have crossed since. A decent bloke and no mean pilot.

Yes, I remember that sticker well. I have a nice photo of his race helmet somewhere from 20-odd years ago with the sticker on it.

Ian still has that sticker on his visor now. Check out the latest 'Motor Sport'.
I remember painting a couple of pictures for him back in '86. He had that on his visor then! Sums up his great sense of humour too - hilarious fun at the old Sports 2000 dinner awards with the likes of his mates Sean Walker etc.

Dan, as the others here have said, Ian's a great bloke.
I remember particularly his father in the seventies. Ian I think did Vees in his early years and then he switched to SuperVees in '74 when he won the championship. I must say I was most miffed but he was good and beat me, largely it must be said from page 231 of the Race Driver's Excuses Book, that I spent more of that year chasing foreign currency!
I remember the last round on that year (Cadwell?) where Ian was simply quicker than I was, finishing just inches behind him, I was greeted afterwards by his Dad who thanked me for not nurffing his offsping off. I had to admit to Flux senior that it might of been different if I actually could have got to him . . . !

Are you sure you raced against Fluxie in S Vees in 74, I think it was Chris Barnett who won the series that year. Fluxie won the F Vee title in 75, then went F3 in 76 with one of the early RT1s.

I thought he was mega in that Ehrlich Atlantic in 1980-81, when he went really well against more modern and 'better' cars.

Can't say for sure, but I do recall both Fluxie and John in Supervees in '74. On t'other hand, my memory ain't all that good these days.....

I'll ask Ian re: Supervee when he gets back from Dubai. He flew out Monday to race a Porsche.

Dan's right; Chris Barnett was the '94 champion (he too had a boss/father), so maybe Ian had a couple of outings at the end of '93 which is where I remember being unable quite to catch him.

Fluxie got banned from most of the pubs in Bletchley during the time he worked for Ehrlichs!
