It's not working well in Opera :(

I must protest on this!
I've just logged on and been moving around for about 15 min, and I've realised that this new stuff isn't working very well with Opera. :(

So far, I've seen drop-down menus not working well (search, quick links), but I guess I'll find more when I get to spend more time here.

Will this ever be fixed?

P.S. Other than that, I like it so far.

I'm generally happy with the way it runs in Opera. However, I see what you mean about the drop-down menus - they are displayed under, rather than on top of, the ads, which means that parts of them are not visible. It's probably related to the version of Java Opera uses.

Yes, Opera does lots of things, erm, strangely... :( Which is a shame as, until it started crashing on me every four or five pages, I thought it looked quite good.

And Firefox has the pages shown as being constantly loading, I'm not sure why though.

It's unfortunately a fact of life that IE is the most popular browser by a huge margin, for example over a 9 day period we had 2,740,658 requests from IE6 browsers and 35,453 from Opera 7 (Ok, I know that Opera can disguise itself as IE6 but it is a rather telling statistic.)

Opera is by default set to identify itself as IE6, and most of us (Opera users) leave it at that, but I do agree that IE is still the most popular by far.

However, if every webmaster would use that as an excuse, how are we ever going to beat evil empire called Microsoft? :p

And, Dave Brand => after I've read your post, I downloaded latest Java (j2re-1_4_2_06), and it's the same.

Of course there is another solution for Opera users..... Getting rid of the Google adverts! I'll start a subscription based system and have a separate template for users that subscribe monthly!

Opera is a pain in the arse for java scripts, they never seem to work right. i had to alter loads of my own web site to take this into account, I also think there is a problem with Macs that run IE and Java.

You mean, if we would pay, we'd be able to use Opera without problems?

Opera's explanation of this is that problems can be caused by proprietary/browser-specific forms of Javascript which don't conform to the ECMAscript standard.

How recently was that? Earlier versions were crashprone, but I've found the latest version, 7.54, to be very stable - I can't remeber it ever crashing.

LOL - ignore him ljakse, he's just trying to be funny! :)

We're looking into it and we'll do our best - same for problems with other browsers.

I was hoping he's gonna answer that - now, you've spoiled all the fun :)

A classic example of a well-meant solution which can in some circumstances exacerbate the problem.

Ok, Opera users should now have the GoogleAds shown between the last post and the reply box, hopefully this will stop the problem with the drop-down menu.

There is an easier option, use Firefox instead. I'm not having any grief at all with it, and i'm still avoiding the plague that is IE and it's security issues...:p

I'm also using Opera 7.54, identified as IE6. Nine times out of ten, pages will load all but the final image, which hangs and I have to press "stop" in order to get anywhere else. Sometimes the site just hangs and I can't do anything but close the page and start again.

This was happening with the old site as well, but I think it only started after I upgraded from 7.53 to 7.54. And before you ask, I have no problem with any other vBulletin boards.

Of basic topic - I used 7.53 & 7.54, and for about a month now I use 7.60 beta, and I didn't have that problem.

Having looked at Opera's forums, I think I'll wait for the final version of 7.60 - there seem to be an awful lot of problems being reported with the preview versions!

In the end, I waited for Opera 8.0. I'm now using 8.01, but the loading problem's still there ....

Posting replies can take ages too.
