Mike_Wooshy 8 Jan 2005, 00:26 okay i just wanted to know if anyone could see similarities in circuits around the world ...... like turn 14/15 at Bahrain, is similar to are similar to turns 7/8 at hockenhiem (infront of the mercedes arena) okay these are both by tilke and are designed similary (sp?) but i just wanted to know if anyone else throught or know any tracks that have something in common .......
mike.
Lustigson 8 Jan 2005, 17:44 I always found Catalunya/Barcelona and Estoril to be very similar.
crozier74 8 Jan 2005, 18:09 I think the linearity in overall shape is what your seeing there Lustig, that's one of the things I see a lot of tracks sharing. I'd agree, Estoril and Catalunya are very similar indeed, a lot of the corners on one track can be directly compared/overlayed with the other.
Mike_Wooshy 8 Jan 2005, 18:18 Nordkurve and Copse very similar shift down and take it fast :D.
CLub at Silverstone and turn 10/11 at Shanghai
Yea, there really are a lot of circuits which look similar to one another. There are though only so many corners one can make, its even moreso evident with chicanes...
Now this isn't a comparison with two real tracks, but have a look at this track (http://img33.exs.cx/img33/288/speed220050108221040569ja.jpg) (original posted at f1gamers.com (http://www.f1gamers.com/f1/bb/?a=view&t=24060&d=)) from need for speed underground 2... What does that remind you off???...
Mike_Wooshy 9 Jan 2005, 03:22 LMAO man that is really bad and does look like sepang but cool non the less. btw that reminds me those long esses at sepang, bahrian, and Shanghai are all very similar, but agian design by the same designer.
MikeHoyer 9 Jan 2005, 05:10 It's funny actually, I've always thought Barcelona and Estoril look very similar, but when you drive them there is quite a lot of difference. The different elevations and scenery and such don't get taken into account when you've just got a map :)
the_royksopp 9 Jan 2005, 17:50 Freak, i thought that too. Bayview Speedway reminds me A LOT of Sepang.
Don't forget to add Jacarepaguá in with Catalunya and Estoril.
mandretti39 10 Jan 2005, 02:16 There's a game for the Nintendo DS handheld system that rips off real circuits. It;s called Asphalt: Urban GT. I read a preview for this game in a gaming magazine and it said that the tracks were based off real world locations. Whether this means that the tracks look awfully similar to real tracks, or that the track can actually be formed using the actual streets of the cities in the game, I don't know, but check these out...

What does that remind you of?
Or this?

Here's one from New York City. It's not a real track, as far as I can tell, but is this what they meant by "based on real-world locations," or are the other two tracks "based on real-world locations?"

Here's a great one. It's the short Nurburgring, but with a jump on the start/finish straight.

Mike_Wooshy 10 Jan 2005, 02:46 well thats intresting theres more people using basic design on tracks for games which is intresting. that 1 looks like buerno aries.
f1freak 10 Jan 2005, 04:32 Looking throught some more screenshots of Asphalt: Urban GT... look what I found...

The first one is Albert Park, and the second one I THINK is Surfers Paradise... please correct me if I'm wrong...
Well, I think that we (and I of course ;)) did get off the point a bit...
Fish_Flake 10 Jan 2005, 06:08 Yeah, I remember when the game Star Wars Episode I: Racer came out on the Nintendo 64, what, six years ago now? Anyway, I was playing this game, and one map of a track in the options menu looked exactly like Laguna Seca, and another a copy of Sears Point. Of course, neither of those tracks have loops and anti-gravity zones in real life (let alone the option of having Jar-Jar Binks as your crew chief), but you get the idea.
formula1fan 23 Dec 2006, 22:55 How weird is that? Real circuits in computer games, but totally different. I know that the thread is about two years old, but who cares?!
