Anyone got any information on the Elva that Elvis was racing (?) in Viva Las Vegas on TV yesterday. It appeared they were craning in an Offy motor. Also some of the accidents looked surprisingly realistic,

Translation ss_c?
I recall something in Classic and Sports Car a few years ago - but cant remember whether it was about the proven actual car or one claiming to be it.

The person who would probably know most about Elvis's Viva Las Vegas Elva would be Prancing Horse editor Jeff Allison, an Elva car buff. If you want me to put you in contact with him, let me know. I have his e-mail address.

"The car was an Elva Mk6 that subsequently went to Dan Blocker (Hoss Cartwright of Bonanza) and then to a guy in Portland Oregon and then to Leigh Anderson of WhiteRock, British Columbia Canada. Leigh has owned the car for many years (20?). The body was changed while the car was in Portland but the chassis etc is pretty original. "

I spoke with a fellow recently who claims that he is the owner of the Viva Las Vegas Mk6. He said that he bought it from MGM. This one has an 1100cc Ford.

What Ford engine might that be?

100E was 1172
105E Anglia was 1000 and later a 1200 option
109E Classic was 1340
Cortina was 1200 or 1500

But as far as I know, Ford never made an 1100cc engine until the Escort which was a lot later

A lot of FJ cars ran with oversized (1100cc) 105E engines
Before that, some people reduced the capacity of 100E engines to 1100cc - I once owned a Lotus VI which had had one of these.
If the Elvis car did indeed have an 1100 Ford, it would surely have been 105E-based

In the film it looked like they were craning in a spare Offy engine or it may have been a Climax , it certainly didn't look like a 100e or 105E.but that was only in the film. They probably weren't even changing the engine so the one on the crane was probably irrelevant.

Checking my notes:
It has an 1100cc 109E, built by a shop in the U.S. using Richardson bits.
