Correction to Ten Tenths opener

Dear Fellows,

Yet another pedantic remark of mine... English is of course not my mother language, but I cannot hold myself and not point a little incorrection on the new Ten Tenths opener ("Launched in 1998 Ten-Tenths Motorsport is one of the largest and most advanced motorsport forum, with over 14,000 registered users and over 1,000,000 posts.")

As Ten Tenths is one of the largest and most advanced ones, it should read fora (or even forums for those that accept this as the plural form of the word - I don't...), but not forum.

Regards,

Muzza

Hi Muzza,

It's an interesting point of debate. In actual fact Fora is the plural of Forum in Latin. The word has been stolen and introduced into common English usage.

Forums is the anglicised version of the plural. Either one may be used and is correct provided the language being spoken is English.

However, you're absolutely right that it should be one or the other and we'll stick an s in there at some point! :)

Cheers,

EP

Well, it might not be fora, it depends on the context of its use ;)
If we were going to be proper about using the 'correct' latin plurals then there's more than one to learn.
Technically, forum is an english word now, and in english the plural is normally denoted by an 's' in which case forums is more correct than fora ;)

"So have a browse through the forums, read the FAQ and then take the plunge and register (it's free!) and join in the discussions."

Is it correct to use "forums" in that sentence then? Should it not be "forum" or indeed "threads"?

The site is a large forum, the other sections are smaller sub-forums that make up a larger one! :)

Why are two gooses called geese, while two mooses are called moose?
And if you had several moose, would they comprise a maggle?
Which raises yet another question...
How many moose would you need before you had "several" of them?
