JohnSSC 14 Feb 2005, 14:30 I tried yesterday and today to add to a Member's Reputation. I keep receiving a popup box telling me I have to "spread some Reputation around" before adding to this Memeber.
I have added to several Member's lately so I am not sure what the difficulty is here.
Can someone explain?
Thanks!
Kicking-back 14 Feb 2005, 14:42 You can only vote for one member once in twenty votes.
I think it should be lowered, because if a person continues to do another good post then, you can't give them positive reputation again.
Kicking-back 14 Feb 2005, 14:53 I think it's about right - it prevents it being abused by people voting for one person all the time.
As K-b says it's set to prevent members repeatedly adding to the reputation of one or two friends. I agree it's a bit arbritary, but it does ensure that when someone adds to your reputation it's 'genuine'.
In theory, if a member's post is truly deserving of a positive rep then if you can't give it someone else will... or at least might... :s
JohnSSC 14 Feb 2005, 15:20 Thanks for clearing that up for me!
P.Cummins 14 Feb 2005, 15:46 What is "member reputation" all about?
Ian Sowman 14 Feb 2005, 15:50 http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_board_usage#faq_whats_new_reputations
:)
P.Cummins 14 Feb 2005, 16:04 read through it and thats great thanks. What do you mean "you can only vote for a member once in 20 votes"?
Ian Sowman 14 Feb 2005, 16:13 If you vote for somebody, you have to vote for 19 other people (or is it 20? never got that far) before you can vote for the first person again.
falcemob 14 Feb 2005, 16:52 I got that message yesterday when I tried to give K-b another vote..........I think I need to get out more.
P.Cummins 14 Feb 2005, 16:52 Ah thanks.
Ian Sowman 14 Feb 2005, 16:53 If you're voting for K-b too often you certainly do! ;)
JohnSSC 14 Feb 2005, 19:14 I apologize to the mods for not posting this in the correct forum in the first place - I really should try to read the directions more often!
My CP shows I have four positive feedbacks and one negative (from Admin) and 37 reputation points, but when I hover my pointer over the box under my Avatar, my standing is lower than when I started. How do I get it to go back up?
Ian Sowman 4 Mar 2005, 22:32 Make more interesting posts with good points in them.
Er... I did. Three times since the negative feedback that put me down to "trying to keep it on the track". Which was why I asked :)
Ian Sowman 5 Mar 2005, 23:39 Well, keep plugging away! ;)
redshoes 6 Mar 2005, 00:45 See http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/faq.php?faq=whats_new_reputations
The effect of each feedback depends on who gives it. If the 3 positives were from junior members their combined effect will still be less that the negative from admin. You either need more positives from junior members or hope to impress a mod who will have more clout.
Thank you to whoever gave me pos feedback for this thread... that's put me up to 45 rep points, although I'm still just trying to keep it on the track
BTW redshoes... I had read the FAQ very carefully. It was not doing that which gave me the neg feedback in the first place. But on your point about the level of the people giving the reputation, two of my positive feedbacks since the neg one are tagged "Royalridge Computing" and I only know one person who uses that as a description of his position... and I don't think many, if any, outrank him. I know because I was cheeky to him once and regretted it :rotate:
Anyway, whatever the mysterious machinations of the reputation calculation system might be, as Ian says... the only way I'm going to improve it is to try and make better posts.
:brm:
MagnetON 6 Mar 2005, 20:14 the neg one are tagged "Royalridge Computing" and I only know one person who uses that as a description of his position... and I don't think many, if any, outrank him. I know because I was cheeky to him once and regretted it :rotate: Actually there's two of us that have this as a user title.
Oops... two, sorry, no offence intended :) :) :)
Yipee.. I'm back in the top ten on the grid :gogirl:
Many thanks for the sympathy :)
Better be off before I outstay my welcome :brm:

Just out of interest, i've made it up to 2 green blobs now (i presume thats for 100 points?) how many more points do i need for 3 green blobs? ;)
From the FAQ
In the side panel that contains a user's information in their post (name etc.) there should be a coloured square (or squares). If you hover your mouse pointer over the square(s), this will give you their current rating.
Thought i'd try this out and get the message "poster X should be qualifying in the top 10 of the grid" for everybody, just wondering, how many actual places are there in the top 10 of the grid? because it's gonna be pretty packed with 2,000 of us trying to cram in there ;)
*hovers mouse of Neg Rep button* :p
You wouldn't do that to your old buddy would you? ;)
On second thought's, don't answer that :p

ASCII Man 5 Apr 2005, 18:35 I'm starting to loathe this 'reputation' thing...
Can't even say anything without being downgraded... :(
°sigh°
Not to sure why you think that. I just looked at your record in the admin panel and you only have one negative and that was four months ago. All the other comments have been positive :s
ASCII Man 5 Apr 2005, 18:53 No, I have 2... :(
Ian Sowman 5 Apr 2005, 18:54 Well I can only see one on there... but that is today, so you are probably right!
You are correct, my apologies, for some reason the default 'view comments' does not include todays comments :s But you still have far more positive comments than negatives!
ASCII Man 5 Apr 2005, 20:30 Maybe I'm just overreacting then... :s
Inigo Montoya 5 Apr 2005, 20:49 ASCII, check your PM's.
Knowlesy 6 Apr 2005, 14:13 I thought it was impossible to get negatives since the system was changed?
It is if you behave yourself. ;)
When it was changed, the ability to give negative feedback was restricted to moderators.
Knowlesy 6 Apr 2005, 19:25 Oh, I see......right, best behaviour then.....I think. :s
Dog Faced Boy 7 Apr 2005, 17:39 Just clicked on to this reputation thingy and was wondering how many points you start with?
Kicking-back 7 Apr 2005, 17:41 50
Dog Faced Boy 7 Apr 2005, 17:43 cheers
Knowlesy 7 Apr 2005, 21:52 Is it possible for us mere mortals to move onto three green blobs?
Imagine that.....people would think I was a moderator or something...
Scared now aren't you!
Peter Mallett 8 Apr 2005, 06:17 Yes, provided you do something worthwhile. ;)
ASCII Man 8 Apr 2005, 11:29 Good grief, it's alot harder to always be nice and informative rather than being an ass...
Too much pressure... :p
Yes, provided you do something worthwhile. ;)
That, of course, is open to interpretation, my "something worthwhile" probably differs a whole lot from someone else's ;)
ralf fan 8 Apr 2005, 18:46 So how many pts do you need to get two blobs?
..and how come i have only one and Knowles and V have two?... it is de-moralising... :( ;)
ASCII Man 8 Apr 2005, 20:44 We have friends, ralf... ;)
Oh wait.. °counts blobs°
Oh... :(

Peter Mallett 8 Apr 2005, 20:47 That, of course, is open to interpretation, my "something worthwhile" probably differs a whole lot from someone else's ;)
Yes but then again it has to be in a post. ;)
Knowlesy 8 Apr 2005, 20:59 LOL at ASCII......
Ralf.....I have no idea how many points for two blobs and quite honestly couldn't give a monkeys. ;)
However, you start on 50 so 100 may be the logical mark for two green blobs. Then 200 for three blobs.......err, or something.
falcemob 8 Apr 2005, 21:15 I think it's more than a hundred for two blobs. Personally I don't worry about the blobs.
blobs, what blobs  ,
I got 2 chances of getting extra blobs, buckleys and none
Dani Filth 9 Apr 2005, 09:10 i have a clean reputation :D
Peter Mallett 9 Apr 2005, 09:11 For now. ;)
Dani Filth 9 Apr 2005, 09:13 errrr . i try to keep it that way :D

falcemob 18 Apr 2005, 16:53 I keep trying but it just seem to keep going up. I must be losing it ;)
