Copies do occasionally come up on eBay, but they're never cheap!
The lowest priced one I could find on www.abebooks.com is £35.00.
Aye, I paid about £50 for mine, but it's worth every penny.
COLIN STUBBS 5 Nov 2005, 09:21 and im at the front of the que for the next one!! ;)
I do not have a copy but have read it,so must have borrowed it from the local Lincolnshire public library.
I can guarantee it is a good read - I must be one of the lucky ones I got mine when when it came out having met Tony at the circuit and got him to sign it.
But trying to get one is a hard as trying to get hold of " Only here for the beer - by Gerry Marshall" been after that for ages
Good look in your search
ensign14 5 Nov 2005, 11:41 "Only Here For The Beer" has been re-issued, it's a tenner or so on Amazon.

thanks for that - will go have a look now
vaughan jones 5 Nov 2005, 13:42 second hand copies of down the hatch available on amazon from 50 pounds, could it not be re-printed if enough demand, haynes thought only here the beer valid, albeit new edition is in paperback
Sticking with Gerry for a moment - the new edition of "Only Here ..." has a new introduction, although the text is the same as the old one. However, all the illustrations have been rescanned from the originals and are very much clearer: when Haynes got in touch with Jeremy Walton, he came up with the photos - still in the envelope they'd been sent back to him in!
I very much doubt anyone at Foulsham knows they published Lanfranchi's book - it was a very strange choice of publisher, so I can only assume Tony knew someone there at the time.

simon drabble 5 Nov 2005, 19:50 I have just bought Tony and Peter Lanfranchi's Lotus Cortina - Tony was a great character - thanks for the tip on gerry Marshalls book - I will go onto Amazon now
Stephen Green 5 Nov 2005, 20:20 You might wish to try contacting John Webb and Brian Jones rwgarding Tony as they worked together for many years. Brian of course still commentates at Brands hatch but I believe John lives in Spain.
zefarelly 7 Nov 2005, 08:42 I paid £30 for my copy, a good read, and I'm still after only here for the beer . . .will head to Amazon !
Dan Rear 7 Nov 2005, 12:24 I got a good second hand copy from a bookseller at the Stoneleigh Historic festival earlier this year, paying, after barter (!), £14. There was a 'mint' copy, fully sealed, from a more prestigous dealer available for around £50 I think...
Heh. H****ns do know how to charge, don't they? I have bought from them (two very rare Sheldons!), but you can usually find anything they have - short of the real exotica - cheaper somewhere else.
joyceswan 7 Nov 2005, 20:04 Have seen several copies of Tony's book on various trade stands at circuits- mainly VSCC meetings,as they seem to have more book sellers than any other club tradestands. I've got both Tony's and Gerry's signed by them. Has anybody read Gerry's "Competition Driving"? A wonderfully informative guide on how to compete, laced with a good dose of his unique humour!!!
BTW most books around £50 mark.
I've got a copy of Competition Driving - picked it up brand new at the Autosport show probably about ten years ago - was very pleased to have found it - then spotted Gerry at the bar so marched up to him and asked him to sign it....which he did after a bit of leg pulling of his fellow drinkers
it's one of my treasured possessions

Tony co-drove for us at Goodwood 2002. A seriously nice guy, as is Peter. As for Gerry, all Top Hat cars carried 'only here for the beer' stickers after his sad end. Both books are great reads and really encapsulate the atmosphere of the times. As for the authors, both of them have freely given advice (and friendship) to me I will never forget.
