J D Wetherspoon are seeking to turn the former Fairman's Garage in Horley in Surrey in to a pub. The name will possibly be "Fearless Fairman" as a tribute to ex GP driver Jack Fairman.
Are there any pubs with a driver's name in the title or will this be a first?
There's a Lex Davidson bar in the Longford pub, which was a landmark on the old Longford circuit in Tasmania.
Milan Fistonic 6 Dec 2005, 03:01 There's a Chris Amon bar at the Ruapuna circuit.

last time I was there[1980] the brake disc, which Lex auctioned in the bar after emerging cashless and thirsty from the Cooper he had just wrecked against the pub,was still bolted to the pub.The publican at a later time set up the bar/museum.

Dispite having lived in the area, I have no idea where this is!
There are quite a few named after Derek Bell, The Bell at Outwood is very nice :rotate:
Gary Critcher 7 Dec 2005, 14:23 my financial advisor is a great newphew of Jack Fairman!! Aside : I drive a race car AND I like pubs ! :rotate:
ss_collins 7 Dec 2005, 15:31 My aim is to have the 'sideways arms' opened in Crystal Palace or Oxford.
There is a pub in Lutterworth, Leics that is a bit of a racing museum (from M1 go right at the whittle memorial, towards central lutterworth, over humpback bridge and the pub is the first one on left)
Silverstone area, The White Horse in the village, the Green Man on the dual carriageway, That white pub in the middle of Syresham, and the one in whittlebury.
Kentagon of course
In Dulwich there is a pub full of Crystal Palace pictures
The Bell in Kemsing, Sevenoaks is owned by an ex Formula Fordster and is frequented by the ex Surtees crowd of SDMC
There is certainly a need for a pub of some description around Crystal Palace that one would actually want to go in to...!
Wouldn't "The Crossed Arms" be a more cryptic name? :)
I go back to Leicester now and again (where I grew up) - must try to check out the Lutterworth one.
zefarelly 9 Dec 2005, 09:24 being a Brighton and Hove albion Fan I'd rather head south than stop anywhere near Crystal Palace !
SImon will remind us, but theres a pub near Silverstone which most Drivers kept in business I believe.
I'd have thought most drivers worth their salt wouldn't want anything to do with JD Wetherspoons, they promote everything a pub shouldn't be !
Chris Roden 9 Dec 2005, 09:47 but theres a pub near Silverstone which most Drivers kept in business I believe.
The Green Man at Brackley, now part of the Premier Lodge chain and much the worse for it. A lot of the old photos and stuff are no longer on display, it is just another typical chain pub/hotel now.... :( :bmood:
The white horse is very motor racing themed. Bits of F1 car and photos everywhere.
ss_collins 9 Dec 2005, 11:28 Crossed arms - like it.
Careful slating Crystal Palace - its good for eats and drinks - my favourite pub is Blubottle on the triangle. about 500m from South Tower.
That white pub in the middle of Syresham,
The Kings Head i believe
Tim Draffan 9 Dec 2005, 13:59 The Three Hammers in Chiswell Green near St.Albans was one the favoured pub of a certain Gerry Marshall and Steve(?) Pope (Aston engined Vauxhall) photographs of
thier cars hung above the bar for years.
The Carpenters Arms in Harpenden is a (small) haven for car enthusiasts as well as real ale drinkers and the landlord has a Jag MK2 with Coombs styling!.
Terrible loss was the Pit and Paddock Bar at the Master Robert Motel on the Great West Road near Heston. Walls and ceiling covered with driver signatures (many of them dead by the time I was last there on New Year's Eve 1974). Several local connections-Tim Parnel's workshop nearby, Mike Hailwood lived nearby at one time. Regular stopping point for racing people between Heathrow and London in pre-M4 days. Understand it was all simply painted over...

Didn't know about this one. Do they do food? Might pop along and see if I can get lunch tomorrow.
ss_collins 9 Dec 2005, 23:15 yeah they do food
Heebeegeetee 10 Dec 2005, 10:37 Thanks very much, will wander along.
Heebeegeetee 13 Dec 2005, 09:06 Well we wandered along and had a nice lunch on Saturday. The pub is called The Fox. There were three Jag XJSes in the car park - a road car, a spares car and the racer.
The pub just has quite a lot of piccies and momentoes, its not a museum as such, but made for an interesting interlude for me whilst wifey and mother-in-law sat and had a good gossip.
The pub serves traditional pub fare, and also has momentoes relating to aviation.
Its worth a visit.
danieljboys 13 Dec 2005, 11:36 I'm told that Mike Hawthorn's local in Farnham town centre used to be a bit of a shrine to him. I have no idea which pub it is though and whether the pictures and memorabilia is still there.
My guess is that it's one of several in the town that have been taken over by one of the large national chains.
"The Jack Fairman" will open its doors on 12th February at 5pm.
Alan Morgan 2 Feb 2007, 09:29 A pub in Weybridge High Street has recently been renamed "The Percy Lambert".....
That would be an appropriate place to gather after a Brooklands ghost walk:cool:
don't forget the Barley Mow in West horsley wher all the Tyrrel people went. Now owned by historic TR4 racer John Andon
terence bower 3 Feb 2007, 07:33 Crown and Cushion in Great Gransden,Beds, Mr Tojero himself lived just a few doors away, plus the airfield was the sight of the first post war race,it was a toss up between here and Silverstone!
Some years ago I was in a pub in Buttermere in the Lake District and on the walls were several pictures of a special saloon Mini. I can not remember whos car it was so can any one jog my memory. The landlord may well have been the driver.
Alan Morgan 6 Feb 2007, 21:29 Quote:- That would be an appropriate place to gather after a Brooklands ghost walk
Indeed it would. Having been on one of the Brooklands Ghost Tours, I can appreciate that the name of Percy Lambert is indelibly linked with the history of the area. I really hope that the torchlight ghost tours are revived next year - they were very enjoyable.....
Jeremy Hall 7 Feb 2007, 16:20 Used to be a pub called Theme Lotus by Primrose Hill, full of Lotus Elan seats and all Lotus bits on the walls-probably all dropped off by now.
