is the megasquirt set up any good .opinions please

okay then has anybody actually used megasquirt

if you are not afraid of electronics and wiring, this is actually quite good, you can do everything with this, it doesn't really look the part, a little rough but the MS bulletin boards so many have many maps and programs to load and start from to set up the calibration and car, Need a lap top however, and space and tim e to tune it, no dyno- open road for drivability. my Exp- it is great once you get it hooked up-once begun half done they say.
from a mild daily driver to a really lively car (nissan 240sx N/A motor)

A mate of mine usewd megasquirt on his SD1 Rover, he got the blank PCB then had to populate it with components.
We both work in electronics so getting the parts was a little tricky but easy enough on a night shift!
You might struggle with that as most suppliers dont like selling one offs of caps and resistors to e honest.
But the set up was veyr good and he noticed great differences in changing the setups with a laptop.
For the money and with a bit of knpowledge you really cant go wrong for me!

Eerald is really only done by Dave isnt, more af a buy it as built product.
Megasquirt, you just get a blank PCB and the software. The rest is up to you.
I thought Emerald was like Weber-Alpha and the like, you buy the setup and set it up on the rollers, hence why squirt is cheaper

I personally would go for Emerald, MBE, DTA etc instead of the MEGA systems, and due to fact that there being more cars using those other systems and i have seen them work. I know of a few people who are playing with megasquirt and have still yet to see a car run properly on it, for the hassle i don't think it's worth it, MBE is plug and go, with a quick session on the rollers just to trim it to your application. Steve Greenald (07774773824) is who I send my customers to, he can map most commercial systems.
