BARC Great & British Festival - Silverstone 22/23 Julydazbaz_99 17 Jul 2006, 12:54 For those of you wanting a day at the race track and hopefully some hot sunny weather to enjoy why not pop down to Silverstone this weekend, the meeting is free to all members of the public :) MikeHoyer 17 Jul 2006, 16:26 I reccomend this meeting, it's generally got big grids, and good racing! However, I doubt I shall be there... dazbaz_99 17 Jul 2006, 16:33 I reccomend this meeting, it's generally got big grids, and good racing! I agree, I went to the round at Brands, was a good event.Especially if you liked Mini's! I got a free hat too...dont know if its the same at all circuits though! MikeHoyer 17 Jul 2006, 16:34 Yeah, I did aswell. I went to the first two (Snetterton and Brands), and they were very good. dazbaz_99 17 Jul 2006, 16:36 Yeah, I did aswell. I went to the first two (Snetterton and Brands), and they were very good. A circuit full of Radicals makes an impressive sight, and sound :) Chris Y 17 Jul 2006, 17:21 Too bad the racing's like watching paint dry ;) dazbaz_99 17 Jul 2006, 17:26 Too bad the racing's like watching paint dry ;) What the Radicals? Al Weyman 18 Jul 2006, 12:03 If Chris says yes the Radicals then I agree. Spoils the whole package IMHO Just too many races and too long and they all look the same. brands 18 Jul 2006, 20:01 If Chris says yes the Radicals then I agree. Spoils the whole package IMHO Just too many races and too long and they all look the same. I agree, as did thousands of Combe spectators who stayed away. dazbaz_99 18 Jul 2006, 20:54 I agree, as did thousands of Combe spectators who stayed away. Well I have only been to the Brands round and I thought that the event was well balanced IMO. Ok their was alot of Radical track time compared to the other races but i thought the Brands combination of Minis, radicals, Euroboss and T-Cars made for an entertaining day. I will admit that the Euroboss races attracted me to the event though on this occasion, Brands is quite a drive for me and so I tend not to go to club meetings there, unless theres something that really really stands out. Chris Y 19 Jul 2006, 10:11 Yes, I did mean Radicals. I've seen them at a variety of tracks, and they've been consistently the most boring race on the package. Cars strung out, very little overtaking, races (and practice) too long, too few entries.. I'm sure they would be a hoot to drive, but just don't ask me to watch their 'races'. Al Weyman 19 Jul 2006, 11:41 I agree and a great missed opportunity (again) by BARC and Dunlop. I enjoyed the general ambiance and buzz (and free coffee and biscuits from Dunlop!) of the first meeting at Snetterton and am looking forward to the one at Donnington but I feel the race card would have been vastly improved with say just one Radical race, say 20 laps max. Grandslammer 19 Jul 2006, 12:25 Officiated at the Combe meeting, racing was OK ,although I think there was too much free testing to start with ;) strider 19 Jul 2006, 14:32 Officiated at the Combe meeting, racing was OK, although I think there was too much free testing to start with ;)Is that a problem that's specific to Combe, as pre-race testing is always difficult there? kipper 19 Jul 2006, 15:02 Is that a problem that's specific to Combe, as pre-race testing is always difficult there? No, all the Great and British events have free practice sessions, although the number of sessions does vary slightly depending on what is racing. White flag man 19 Jul 2006, 21:34 Officiated at the Combe meeting, racing was OK ,although I think there was too much free testing to start with ;) Have to agree with you Grandslammer. I was marshalling at Combe and I thought there was too much testing/qualifying and the radical races were a bit too long. I thought the saloons were much more fun. I'll be there this weekend, so hold the front page. Ian Sowman 19 Jul 2006, 21:38 Have to agree with you Grandslammer. I was marshalling at Combe and I thought there was too much testing/qualifying and the radical races were a bit too long. This is where you get the very difficult balancing act between giving competitors value for money and spectators and marshals what they want. Perhaps this package has too many compromises. Al Weyman 19 Jul 2006, 21:38 No, all the Great and British events have free practice sessions, although the number of sessions does vary slightly depending on what is racing.Shame they never let the CTRCC boys have some of this 'free' practice when we were on with them, at least it may have been more interesting. DriversKnow 20 Jul 2006, 13:25 This Sunday's Dunlop/BARC event at Silverstone will be free of charge to the public. This is a great opportunity to see some of Britain's best racing championships, including four of the series from the Dunlop Great and British Championships. The Radical BiDuros promise spectacular action, whilst the awesome V8 Sr8 Radicals in the Radical Enduro event will be amongst the fastest cars to race on the Silverstone National circuit this year. In the Ginetta Junior series, Henry Surtees is looking to follow in his illustrious father's wheeltracks, and in the packed Ginetta Senior championship race BTCC driver Ian Curley and World Kart Champion Martin Hines will be looking to teach the regulars a lesson. Also on the bill are the Max5 and Westfield Championships, two of Britain's biggest one-make series, giving a diverse and eclectic mix of action at Silverstone. Racing starts at 11am. DriversKnow 20 Jul 2006, 17:39 BTCC driver Ian Curley is to take on former World Kart Champion Martin Hines in the two guest Ginettas dj choc ice 20 Jul 2006, 22:31 and dont forget jade edwards in the ginetta juniors she the daughter of jim edwards who used to race in the BTCC so watch out for her:) Woolley 20 Jul 2006, 23:30 I think this would get a better response in Trackside, so I'll take the liberty of moving it over for you. MikeHoyer 21 Jul 2006, 02:56 We've already got a topic on this, so I'll merge the appropriate stuff... /edit - now merged. |
