What no-one inside F1 seems to understand is that no-one outside the sport cares about the politics. They want to see racing. They want to see heroes being brave in spectacular cars. And it is not happening. The time has come for Formula 1 to wake up and smell the horse manure in which it is now mired. It is time to look at the sport and ask what the hell is happening. How can F1 compete with other sports if the show is less exciting than a sheep-dog trial? In the hour before the Grand Prix began a lot of F1 people watched the motorcycle racing from the Sachsenring. The MotoGP race was sensational with four men dicing for victory right to the final corner. It was everything that F1 should be.

And that person apparently realizes it in 2006!

There is "a lot of sun" besides F1, and always existed. For example, around 1970 sportcars were wonderful. In middle 80s and part of 90s CART racing was surreal, like movie scripts. Touring car WTCC is usually cracking these years. MotoGP/500cc has been awesome from, at least Roberts/Spencer days to today (without almost any weak years). And I even don't speak about rallying.

To discover now that there are very interesting high level motorsport out there is amazing.

he just discovered sliced bread ..
MotoGP was ALWAYS more exciting to watch in the last 10 ears that i've been folowing all these series .. maybe only BTCC from mid 90s came close in term of "excitingness"

Indeed. I've only just caugt on. And I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

I finally got the wife into racing a few years ago. She started with F1 and really liked it. Especially the speed of the cars. But now, she usually just watches the start and goes off to cook or garden. Last year, I started watching Moto GP just prior to the USGP, which I went to. At that time, she didn't pay much attention. Now, she'll watch the whole race. Yesterday, we were both shouting.

I just wish the rest of the racing community could catch on. Another manufacturer would be nice. More sponsors. More teams. This sport has the ingrediants and should be getting a bit more recognition.

I can't wait to get to Laguna this Friday. I'm riding my CBR to the race and will be camping with my cousin's family. So I get to ride and then watch the best in the world. Moto GP and AMA live baby! :rotate:

I dunno if you watch World Superbike, but that has been brilliant as well. The Edwards-Bayliss fights are legendary, I remember the last races in was it 2003? in Imola. They were brilliant.

In recent years WSB have had bad publicity, with the controlled tyre situation and major manufacturers leaving, but the racing is still brilliant!

I hope you have good races there! Nice track, Laguna.

The wife's story is interesting. It surely is a good gauge to how exciting motorbike can be, just for a non petrol-head person. I, as almost anymuch of us, am freaky enough to watch F1 every time no mattter how bad the season was. But I really get my dose of excitement :coffee: currently from FIM GPs, WTCC and GP2.

Bike racing has always kicked arse, I sat down the other day and flicked on an old DVD of Gobert and Slight fighting it out at PI back in the mid 90's. God it gets you going.

MotoGP has been outstanding this year with the young fellas coming through the ranks and it looks even better with Dovi and Lorenzo as possible starters next year.

I am a huge fan of the supers and Troy Bayliss. Is it just me or does Troy look more relaxed on the Ducati this year compared to 2001/2002. It seems he does not ride the whole race at 10/10th and he only really starts to throw the bike around and the arse sliding, around the mid way point of the race. His body language suggests to me he is just going through the motions for the first 1/2 of a race. Again maybe it is just me seeing that.

The Mrs and I have lost total interest in the local V8Supercar series & F1 this year and our focus is now on GP and Supers.

Make me want to take the Bird down to Eastern Creek and throw it around.

.

Make that 2 of us. Ill still follow F1 as a side project but my days of staying up and watching races is over till they start overtaking on track and not in the pits. V8's is boring as well. ill watch bathurst and sandown but thats about it unles i have nothing else to do on a sunday arvo.

Last year i think that WSBK had the edge on MotoGP but this year both are mega. this weekend should be great with the double ! :D

I never fully got on the Aussie V8's bandwagon and I don't bother at all now unless it's Bathurst or something.

F1? With so many races at such early hours of the morning or so late at night it's hardly worth bothering with at all. I'm off it totally until there are major changes. And I mean MAJOR! It's a poor show now, too much money flying around and absolute BOREFESTS....

MotoGP, 250cc and 125cc fill my need to watch racing along with WSBK.

Dont forget the World Supersport as well.

Last year between the supersport and the 2nd Superbike races, Fox would show highlights of the BSB championship. This year from what I have seen it is a rap up of MotoGP.

I bloody wish Fox would give us full coverage of BSB and the AMA championships in place of Curling and the other crap they have on.

BSB was bloody great to watch.

HDTVKSS - The V8scalelectric series is on it's arse as it's all about entertainment now and not racing, and I think some people are starting to realise it's become the WWF of motor racing. Still I guess most of us grew up in the Grp C and Grp A era's where tin top racing was exciting and we expect alot more.

I will watch Sandown like you and I am going to pass on making a trip up to the mountain. I think the big screen TV, nice warm lounge room, BBQ, clean toilets, and bourbon galore is much better than the past few years at Bathurst.

Gotta say I enjo yht eAus V8's but the races are too long for me, they eed more sprint races and more contact! The BTCC guys let people get away with far more and it makes the rivalry better.
As for the rose tinted glasses MotoGP brigade, Doohan made the sport crazy dull in his era really, but the enjoyment was watching him get beat and also revelling in his mastery of a NSR!
WSB has ALWAYS been better RACING, but a lot more fun and not quite as serious, riders like Haga and Bayliss prefer that I think.
BSB is a bit up and down, there have been some great years but quite often the racing really isnt that great, the tracks are awesome though and that makes the difference! Knockhill last week was mega!
AMA is pretty much, who is on the best bike wins!

Yeah, how great is it watching the bikes squirming and jumping around Knockhill?

I think BSB is really heating up now too.....Lavilla has hit a blip and Kiyo and Haslom are closing in. A great championship, I think I prefer it to WSBK to be honest.
