The 30's the era of Titans...

It is mostly known that Tazio Nuvolari won one of the races of the last century, the German Grand Prix of 1935, was it really the best race ???

Welcome to the forum Roland.

If you consider the speeds the cars achieved and the circuits they raced on, I don't think you could classify any of those races as the best. They were all seriously good.

Are you referring to the title of the Shell series of films with your reference to "the titans"?

The Donnington GP of 1937 was remarkable because it was the first time the Silver Arrows and Auto Unions raced in the UK.

Anyway. I fully expect Tim D to have a few words to say on this subject.

Nobody seems game to have a go at this....

Many races, many winners, many circuits... who can imagine what it was like at Brno? Pescara? Real men's circuits, even more so than the Nurburgring...

What about the intrigue, the inclusion of the Third Reich in the picture? Seaman winning the German GP to rub salt into the wounds?

Wasn't the 1936 Monaco race another good one?

Rolando,

What was the best race of the thirties?

I suppose you are referring to Grand Prix Racing. During the 10 years (1930-1939) a total of 279 races took place where Grand Prix cars participated. 109 of those races were considered major events and only 49 of those carried the title Grande Épreuve (meaning Great Trial). If you truly want to find the best race of this era, you probably find it amongst the group of 49 top events, although there was never a popularity contest between the individual races. So it actually is a fruitless exercise.

I suggest you go to the site below, which best describes the races of this era. <http://www.kolumbus.fi/leif.snellman/index.htm>

The 1935 German Grand Prix was probably the one most written about but other races out of the group of 109 events were just as dramatic.
