I'm running on Toyos, so presumably the ashtray is eligable ? - do you know the proposed timetable ? I've got the entry filled out for the TRC rounds, but haven't sent it off yet - If races are spread out, I may be Mr Greedy and enter 4 on the day - I'm getting old and need to pace myself - can you send me an entry anyway, and mail me your new address again - I seem to have misplaced it already
Thanks
Alan

I have a cunning plan.........................................
I may be missing the October round at Lydden, so I can get two lots in september - Only get back from Venice 2 days before October round, so no time to prepare the car, also there is a race I want to wach at the ring on Sunday - If I come down and watch on saturday afternoon, I can then catch the ferry and drive to the ring - watch the racing on the sunday, play for a few laps monday morning then back to blighty - I sort of got permission from swmbo. If it happens, I'll be doing it in her focus (although she doesn't know that bit yet)

Timetable is being worked on. Basically practice will start at 0900, the DT&R will be split into two groups, likely to be 19 in each. All the long circuit races are in the morning, then after lunch the action moves to the oval along with the trucks on the 3/4 circuit. At the end of the day there will be a barbecue for all drivers and marshals. It should be worth staying, as we have the Radio Invicta girls to help present the prizes.

Enjoyable days racing - despite a hole in the block in the first A,C&I race. - Brother very generously insisted I took his tomcat out for 2nd Tintop race, so I got to finish 1 race.
Have a spare engine, but I want to top and tail it before installing, so Astra won't be out again until next season - what happened in 2nd A,C&I race - lots of bent cars, and delayed results.

The results of Race 2 were slightly amended following a successful protest and a subsequent inquiry. One driver had his licence endorsed for driving standards. It was a shame, but it may send out a message that contact is not allowed. The positions around 7th,8th and 9th were altered.

Absolutely no excuse for a practise shunt like that IMHO. I got clobbered in practice by some 'person' at Brands in a Classic Thunder race. This joker had already bagged the fastest lap by several seconds but and there were at least another 5 laps to go but oh no could not stand just one spoiled lap so turned in on me nearly launching me off the track. At least your man got a reprimand did'nt he, no one said a word to this guy.

Alan,

Have you done a post mortem? I'll lay odds that a rod let go at the threaded part where the rod bolt goes in.

Get some steel rods before it does it again. You're probably at the point where your engine is producing more power than the rods can stand.

A discussion from earlier this year, or was it last year........

Rob.

Alan,

Have you done a post mortem? I'll lay odds that a rod let go at the threaded part where the rod bolt goes in.

Get some steel rods before it does it again. You're probably at the point where your engine is producing more power than the rods can stand.

Haven't touched the car since unloading from the trailer- Have got various holidays /visits to the ring coming up, so probably won't be able to start on spare engine until later in Oct. s'posed to have Omega Pistons, decent head,ARP bolts etc etc - want to checkit all out before putting it in. Stock bottom end with ARP bolts is supposed to be good for 8k, wheras the MBE management system was set for about 7100 soft and 7250 hard, so I suspect it was old age _ I think the engines been a bit tired for some time now - low on compression, was just hoping to see the season out on the old engine as I've just moved and have got too much to do indoors!

If it's a Honda Vtec, or Toyota VVTi or similar, then that's fine.

I found with the 1600cc 8v Vauxhall lump that it was related to power output.

When my engine turned out a Gp.A-esque 155bhp it was very reliable, and revving to 8800rpm intermittently.

With it pushing 180+ but revving less (shift point at 7400, limiter set at 7500), I went through 3 blocks in 2 years.

New rods every time. ARP, Ilmor, and Cosworth bolts.

In the end, I threw in the towel and bought a set of steel rods, which cost me much less than one "rubber" bottom end, due to the cost of the Cosworth Gp.A pistons adding around £100 per pot.

Since then, the engine did three seasons before a "freshen" - which consisted of nothing more than a set of ends & mains, as the bores were perfect, and the rings were still mint. Everything x-ray'd an OK. I love Mobil-1!!

Good News for me. George has straightened up and re-welded the driver's side pick-up point for the lower wishbone. I had a spare one to replace the damaged one.The driveshaft and gearbox appears OK. I have a trip to Quantum's on Friday with the damaged strut; it is well f****d. New wing being picked up, front bumper being glassed up today. As long as Quantum's can do me a rebuilt strut in the next 2 weeks, Iwill be at Lydden on 7th.

Rob.I lost V8's due to rod failure using standard rods and they are tough and steel as standard. ihave them in one engine at the moment and restrict that to 6500rpm, in the IROC I rev to 7800rpm but have Manley steel billet rods which being a chevy you can buy 8 off for less than the price of a set of 4 for a Nova (thats why I race em!).

And I'd walked away from that end of the circuit 3 minutes earlier... Else you'd have had photographic evidence aswell!

And I'd have managed to get in there for the first time... In fact they didn't have any pics of the meeting in Autosport of it and only 1 of Matt's in MN.

One of the 205s ended up driving up and then back down the banking on the run down to paddock. One of (I believe a series of) the pics ended up in MN.

I don't know what happened with Chris's incident - I just saw the aftermath (cars all over the track) from the assembly area.
