Horrible title, yes. I am sorry.

But we're coming up on the Glen!

Will Junior flunk it and drop out of the Chase?
Will Harvick extend his lead in the Busch series?
Anything else Watkins Related?

Discuss!

I hope Marc Goossens will qualify and have a good solid race.

This is the weekend Earnhardt drops out of the chase. I can feel it, and anyone who has experienced my predictions in other forms of motorsport knows how reliable my feelings are. ;)

Come on Papis!

On Sunday, the NASCAR Nextel Cup moves to Watkins Glen International for the AMD at the Glen (http://146.145.120.3/default.asp?c=sportsbetting&page=nascar/misc/autoweekly_pic.htm). Jimmie Johnson’s torrid pace this season has left almost all his competitor checking the standings to see where are they in relation to the 400-point cut off to qualify for the “Chase”. He has four wins and seventeen top-10 finish in 21 races. No driver can rest easy over in the final five races. It is critical for the drivers in 3rd place up to 11th place to perform well and don’t put up any one bad race which could put them on the bubble or worse out entirely. These drivers who are in the hot seat are Jeff Burton, Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Mark Martin, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

That 400 point cut off doesn't matter because I think some 6th place is already 400 points down. Only the top 1 will be in the chase.

Hopefully the Nextel race will entertain later this evening. I love Watkins Glen, it can't let me down now!

Man, annother good race.

Fantastic by Harvick, and I'd like to say to knowlsey

TAKE THAT!

Dale Jr stays 10th in the points, a fairly difficult day, got shafted by the caution flag then spun while working his way through the field. Can't wait till Juan Pablo and Jacques can get a piece of this action. Man, fantastic.

Now the big question, now that Kevin's stocks are high...

...can he do the double? We can assume that he's got the Busch series tied up, but can he hunt down Johnson for the Nextel series?

The race at the Glen yesterday was proof of why NASCAR is the best race series in the world, every lap someone was overtaking, every restart the mid field was 3 or 4 wide into turn one, it had my full attention for the whole 90 laps I can tell you. All you yanks should be very proud of the monster you have created. And congrats to Harvick, I really thought TS had him when he went around the outside at the bus-stop.

Hazza, I was glad I was wrong! Phew! :rotate:

It got a bit caution heavy mid-race, but was generally fantastic entertainment. NASCAR just gets better, and so does The Glen!

Will catch the Busch repeat tonight.

Was a good race. Very intertaining and can't wait for Montoya to get in there.

One question though. Why does nascar only run the short circuit? Such a great race would be even better if they went through the long course. is there something in the regs?

Another note....of the 36 races they do I still think 9 or 12 of them should be road courses.

I think the short track is the "traditional" track, iirc. I might be talking out my arse but still...

The problem with that many road courses is that there are a number of high profile tracks that are sold out way in advance, and there wouldn't be room to cut them out of the schedual. Remember the ruckus when Darlington was cut out to let in annother Texas race?

I prefered the Busch race. Shame that Kurt Busch was unlucky when entering the pits with the red light.

That was terrible luck. He must have been about three feet from the line and the red light came on! He must have been raging.

Perhaps, but the "Chute" and "toe" (Turns 7 & 8) are unbelieveable corners. tis a shame they don't use them.

The "off camber" is another good one.

Once again nascar doesnt fail to disapoint
more overtaking in 1 corner than in an entire f1 season
brilliant.

Shame robby gordons car wasnt good enough to keep up with harvick or tony one hell of a race roll on michigan:)

Yep I thought the penalty was harsh considering he would have no time to stop let alone by the time he went across the line realise the light had just came on a split second before he crossed it.

Knowlesy
17 Aug 2006, 23:42
Well, he should have passed straight through the pits in any case to be honest. He certainly couldn't have avoided the pitlane, but he could have avoided the penalty.

Not that it matters.

The rules apply to everyone. He got caught up in an unfortunate situation, tough, the same happened to J. Gordon last year. As knowlesy stated, he could have driven through. His and his crew's decision not to.
