Endurance Virgin

Wanted so long to actually go to an endurance race, now I've won the 10/10ths comp for Donington!!!!!

Other half (who is not a motor nut, but will watch the odd race if I force him) will be with me.

I am looking for tips/suggestions on how best to enjoy the weekend predominantly for me (which I will regardless) but also for him.

This is SUPER important as I have managed to get a pre agreement to Le Mans next year & if this weekend doesn't entertain, then I will have to do the washing from now until June!!!

PS - Don't say "leave him behind & go with mates"; I've already tried that :rotate:

1 - Take a radio and headphones - there may be a low power transmitter broadcasting the commentary on 1602 Medium Wave which will be easier to hear then the trackside PA system.

2 - Don't watch from just one spot. As this should be a 6 hour race you will have plenty of time to wander round the whole circuit - probably more than once.

3 - Check the weather forecast and take waterproofs if necessary. Donington had no covered grandstands last time I was there (April), so there's no cover if he weather turns nasty.

4 - Enjoy it !!

I found, when I didn't used to work at races (and even now when I do!), it's nice to take some time away from trackside, about 3 hours in, head to the bar and have a cold beer, or whatever your favourite is, and just sit back, relax, and enjoy the noise of the cars. Other than that, try and get all around the track, and also the grandstand at the last corner, if it's open to gen. admission, as you'll get a great view of the pitstops.

Outside of the last corner gets you pretty close.
