Great success for the first Triple Australian Grand Prix of motocross, hold
on the Broadford track in the Victoria State. Thirty two thousand spectators
attended the event, in a perfect day (22.5°C at 1.00 p.m with 11% of
humidity) and saw great racing in all the classes.
Young British rider Sword led the pack after the first corner, followed by
Belometti, Dobb, Dorsch, Eggens, Chiodi and Jorgensen. Sword kept the lead
only half a lap, as Dobb passed him straight in the first lap. After this
first lap Dobb was followed by Sword, Dorsch, Belometti, Eggens, Traversini,
Chiodi, Ramon, Jorgensen, Sheak, Seguy and Caps. Once more Dobb was too
strong and won the race, but this race was really exciting... behind him!
Traversini had troubles with the bike and retired in lap two, and during
most of the race Dorsch and Belometti will battle for the second position.
Belo passed the young German rider twice, but Dorsch passed him straight and
Belometti had to wait twelve laps to take the second spot! The battle was
great between Belo, Dorsch, Sword, Eggens, Chiodi and Ramon, but Ramon
crashed in the eleventh lap. In the last part of the race Chiodi came third,
and Seguy came back to fifth despite his poor start.
Beirer got the holeshot in the 250 race, followed in the first corner by
Federici, Theybers, Morris, Pichon and Demaria. Bolley was only nineteen,
while Dugmore and Cepelak crashed. At the end of the first lap Pichon was
pushing behind Beirer, and they had a three seconds advantage on Theybers,
Federici, Morris, Demaria, Nunn, Coppins, Cooper and Crockard. Bolley was
sixteen, and Reed only twenty fifth after a crash in this opening lap. He
will do a fantastic race, supported by the crowd and will finished sixth!
Bolley will not do a similar race, retiring in lap ninth (he was back
eight). Putting the pressure on Beirer, Pichon will wait only one lap and a
half to take the lead as Beirer crashed in the second lap. Pichon was lucky
as he didn't touch Pit's bike, and then he went to his third win in a row.
Federici and Demaria both passed Theybers in the third lap and came second
and third. The top three positions were fixed, but behind this trio there
were nice battles; Crockard finished fourth after a consistent race, and
Coppins won his battle with Reed. Beirer was back in sixth after his crash
but lost ranks as he crashed again in lap sixteen.
The 500 race was more exciting as usual, and the crowd was cheering local
hero Andrew Mc Farlane when he got the holeshot! Eckenbach, Lindhe and Smets
were just behind him in the first corner but in the first lap Everts did
many passes to come second behind Mc Farlane. Stefan took the lead in the
second lap, and Smets passed second in the fourth lap after a charge on Mc
Farlane in a corner. Unfortunately Joel damaged his front brake in this
charge and will have to do a pit-stop in the fifth lap. Mac Farlane will led
again the race in the fifth lap after Evert's crash, but Stefan will took it
again straight to go to another one GP win. Finally Everts won it, followed
by Mc Farlane, Lindhe, Bervoets and Smets coming back from eleventh to
fifth.
sums it up elephino, although i missed half of the 125 race cause i was late - still a great day, phillip island this weekend for the "double troy show".....
