silver bullet 20 Sep 2006, 11:02 I've just seen an interview with Robbie Bolger, he said Japanese cars should be banned and he would like to see just Holdens and Fords battle it out.
Surely light and agile Japanese cars are far better suited to drifting than V8 brutes.
alfacors 26 Sep 2006, 03:26 Robbie speaks before he puts his brain in gear. He also loves to sheet stir :)
Sounds like a stir up that's for sure!
Sounds like he doesn't want to have to compete against anyone...
please dont turn drifting into another crappy boring 2 model series!
to me it just looks like some one doesnt like lossing...
Going up and watching the WA drifting at Barbagallo I don't remember there being one ford or holden in the two times I went and watched it.. two car makes just ain't enough
I think he's saying the same as CAMS for the Aussie Supercars, you can have any car that you like, as long as it's a Ford Falcon or a Holden Commodore.
Considering the Japanese seemed to invent the "sport", then it's fitting that their machinery is in it.
It'd be like having South Africa playing the West Indies for the Ashes (cricket). Just not done!
mel tyres 22 Feb 2007, 23:55 Hi Dave what tyres do they use in drifting cheers Mel
graham bahr 23 Feb 2007, 10:16 hardest, least grippy ones you can get i would of thought!
That used to be the trend, but now the cars are making so much power, they use softer, usually new tyres, as they make more smoke, and still give drive out of the corners (so someone can't get underneath to overtake)
silver bullet 7 Mar 2007, 22:03 Hi Dave what tyres do they use in drifting cheers MelHi Mel, welcome to tenths. I'm not sure what the preffered choice of tyre is now. I know the Bridgestone RE-01 used to be the choice a few years ago.
I don't know about Yoko's, but Kumho's are definately being used.

Can you supply any of that additive, it would look cool when we are warming our tyres on the dummy grid ;)

thats not an additive giving red smoke .... thats the tyre!
Kumho are producing coloured tryes that give off coloured smoke....not cheap though
silver bullet 8 Mar 2007, 09:59 Ohh, right, I thought it was some sort of paint on stuff, like you do with tyre softener.
Warwick 18 Mar 2007, 08:32 Kumho are producing coloured tryes that give off coloured smoke....not cheap though
they give off coloured smoke but the tyres are still black
Captain VXR 18 Mar 2007, 13:43 hardest, least grippy ones you can get i would of thought!
Only on entry level cars eg a Ford Sierra with a welded diff and no other mods. As StuiE said, top cars eg Kazama's Silvia use grippy tyres
s-crutineer 18 Mar 2007, 21:25 they give off coloured smoke but the tyres are still black
??? i had a meeting with the motorsport director of kumho about the tyres and there was one sat right in front of me
and it certainly wasn't black
the sidewall area was but there was a about 2/3rds of the tyre in the middle was clearly red.
Warwick 20 Mar 2007, 06:58 Kumho rep brought them into work to show us, the tyres were all black but marked in red so they know what colour smoke they give off,he said they were doing three colours?, bloody expensive tyres to
