Hi All,

I'm sure this topic will have been covered before, but has anybody looked into insuring their race cars for competition use? If so, which company's do people recommend?

I've been offered the use of another drivers car for the whole of next season, but am worried about writing it off as it's worth a bit more than my cars!!

Thanks

There are a couple of companies that provide insurance - competition car insurance is one of them. From memory I think that you are looking at least £350 per race meeting for some insurance and that has a fairly large excess say £2k and then will give maybe £10k of cover.

However please check this info as it is many years since I insured a race car.

What I think you will find that is over a season if you insure for all races (you will have to spend quite a few thousand on this, and if the car has a big crash or gets burnt out you will need to make up the excess over the limit of the insurance.

Personally I would not bother with the insurance as most crashes dont cost more than the excess and the cost of the premium, but I would not drive someones race car that I could not easily afford to replace if the worse happened.

Agreed with KS there. Last time I got a quote from CCI the fees went up in a sliding scale, £350 was about minimum, the total payout was capped and the excess went up accordingly. They would also only payout for certain things and would cover running gear etc.
It would probably give peace of mind for a one off but for a season I wouldn't bother.

The other problem whether you have it insured or not is the cost can vary depending on who repairs it. If I bent a car I could probably repair it a lot cheaper than the owner who may want it to go to a race preparer to be sorted.

Compition car insurance did mine, you have to watch policies as they cover parts for repairs but not always labour.

Can be quite expensive but cheaper than paying for anew car!
