Stanley, Wyatt

Anyone remember this chap, a UK based F3 racer of late 70s early 80s. He had an old March for a time, then got one of the very first RT3s I think. For a time only he and Rob Wilson had these in 1980, then the flood followed after!

He later had a F2 Ralt, called an RT2 in, I think, early 81. I don't think this was an ex-Toleman car, it couldn't have been an update of the RT3 (could it?) so what was it?

Who was Wyatt, any answers please, on him and his cars, purely for my curiosity I should add ?

As this one has gone very dead, I'll see if I can restart it, or is Mr Stanley so obscure that no-one can recall him or his cars - admittedly he did spend most of his time at the back of the grid! But as the second ever cahp to run the RT3 in Britain, I thought he may have rung some bells. Equally interesting, to me at least, is the RT2/RT6 he had in early 81, or may have been early 82, certainly in the Silverstone saeson opener. Anyone any ideas on this ???

I remember him Dan, but don't seem to have any photos or info on him. I think he had a white RT3?

He raced a self-entered Ralt RT1 in 1979, but didn't score any points.

I remember him in a red RT3, as Dan says, he, along with Rob Wilson, was one of the first to race the soon to be all conquering Ralts.

Wyatt Stanley was probably one of the first racers to try and make the transition from karting to single seaters. He was a leading competitor in karts around 76-77. Didn't really have much joy in F3 though he always had up to date equipment.

Thanks for responses. I checked Autocourse, he definitely started the 81 Silverstone Int. Trophy in an F2 Ralt Hart, described as an RT2.

I can remember giving him a lift to Towcester, for a medical in his F3 days. The F2 he drove was a red Hart powered RT4 (similar to the works Honda V6 powered cars), but he didn't do many races in it, I think it was then sold, and raced by David Duffield (in blue/white).

Spearce, thanks for that. I don't think the Duffield car was Stanley's though, it was ex-Leslie I believe, an Atlantic, that Duffield uprated to an F2, with BDX I think. It later passed to James Stevenson I recall with Hart motor. I saw it at Mallory in 84-85.

Chris

I remember him in 250 gearbox karts in the late 70s. But he was way off being one of the first to make the transition from karts to cars.

One of the funniest moments at a GP at Silverstone. back in the late 70's/early 80's (I think). Walking through the camp site on Saturday evening. Various factions were chanting the names of their heros in typical football style, ie. "Nelson Pee-Kay...", "Kekky Roz-bu-urgh", etc, when some wag interrupted with the classic "Wyatt Stanley...." A moment of inspired irony.
As I remember, Wyatt and his brother (?) were competing in F3 at the time. A white Ralt RT1 and a Simpson Bandit helmet strikes a chord. True privateer effort in a changing environment. Good to see....

Wyatt - I just emailed you via the forum. Hope you get it. If not pls email me at derek@lola7.com. Thx - Derek Harling (owner of RT2-172 and RT4-180)
