Supposing I was after say, a 2.7 V6 Diesel engine for a project. Would I be able to buy one metaphorically over the counter, or is it a case of find one from somewhere else?

I don't particularly want to get an engine out of a write off, neither do I want one which has been sitting around in a scrapyard for ages.

You can but I think there is a surcharge if you dont have an old unit to supply in exchange or if the old unit has a holed block for example.
