Again, I've got the Motoring News report so can fill in some background

Big news here was the unexpected appearance of Tom Walkinshaw in what the report described as an 'unsignwritten ETC testing hack Rover'-the car was in Bastos colours, but without the sponsors' logos and signwriting. Walkinshaw was running outside the championship, as the car wasn't registered for points. His reason for racing according to the MN report was to 'give my neck a workout.I trapped a nerve when I was T-boned in New Zealand earlier this year, and I've been having physio since. It flared up again after Spa, and now I'm checking it'll be OK for the TT'
He was also testing new wheel rims

Graham Goode had been deducted 10 championship points for his exclusion at the Silverstone GP support earlier in the season.

Mike Newman was back after missing Snetterton in favour of a holiday in the South of France- his 635 also having had an engine rebuild, but still not performing as it should- 'I've no revs at the top end'

Class B was suffering from a 50% shortfall in Alfas- the Terry Drury pair absent here. Jon Dooley's ARDT car was now in John West colours, Napolina having withdrawn as a sponsor

Richard Belcher went off into the tyres during the untimed practice session, the Jeffreys car being repaired (although slightly scarred) for first qualifying. North Essex Motorsport boss Julian May loaned the headlights from his road car to help repair the Escort!
