I think B-Spec is a great idea in principle but on GT 5 the implementation was absolutely dismal.
What GT needs to do is work on its driver progression without giving us a story or career mode; we don't need that but we do need to feel as if we are actually achieving something and have some sort of attachment to our drivers.
The idea of B-Spec is great because it allows the racing equivalent of FIFA and Football Manager in one package. The problem is that GT is so sterile that we get faceless drivers who we don't care for. Even worse, in B-Spec itself there are limited options and little feedback on how our driver is doing apart from a few fairly meaningless on screen bars. One of the best ways to re-invent B-Spec is by allowing the player to take direct control of the car just so the whole thing isn't so monotonous. Of course, this should be limited to maybe 50% of the entire race distance but it would allow the player greater immersion and would also let the feature seem a bit more attractive than purely a running demo.
