This is a regular trick on circuits with a complicated last corner, where the fastest line/speed
through the corner does not produce the fastest exit speed. You want to use one line to get across the start line as quickly as possible, thus gaining time at the start of the lap, but then the other line will give you more speed for the overall lap. I hope that made sense.
