Homolgation has to be based on a specific model of road car, GT was the one that Opel used. Not sure exactly why but there was probably some tiny difference that made this model just that little bit more suitable than any other Vectra.
For example, prior to the introduction of the Super Touring wings and splitters regs Ford changed from using the Mondeo Si to the Mondeo Ghia specifically because the Ghia had a different front bumper to accommodate the fog lights. Remove the lights and the holes make a useful air intake for brake cooling ducts.
