Does anybody know anything about the Ford AXblock used on crossflows? In particular what do the code numbers denote? I have a block that has the following codes :
31K 95 AX
831C 6015 R34
I have seen other blocks which all have the 'AX' '831C' '6015' and 'R34' but the first numbers differ. Do these first numbers denote bore wall thickness or ability to take a large bore?
Any info would be gratefully received.

Right, got one!!. Idealy you need the one with 909 stamped on one of the bell housing lugs? 86 to 86.5mm is reconned to be the safe max.The numbers you have quoted Peter are just factory codes.
