I don't get the contrived idea. It certainly adds a possibly unthought of dimension but contrived insinuates that it is preordained, which it isn't.
The 90 sec stop is pretty well received by all competitors, I believe. It also reigns in costs of pro pit teams and mega dollar rattle guns and fuel rigs.
