Yes, looking back it's surprising how quickly the 1600cc Mk1 Golf disappeared from the series, given that quite a few were still active in Europe as late as 1987...
Minshaw moved on to the 1800cc Mk2 in '84, and Greenhalgh quit at the end of that year, and that was it- None of the cars seem to have appeared in other hands, and if the GTI Engineering Group A demonstrator that Richard Lloyd had for sale at the end of '83 ever found a buyer, then they certainly didn't use it in the BTCC
So what was the reason- as you suggest costs, lack of support from VW GB, or difficulty in the supply of Group A parts- Or was it simply a case of Ford offering a better deal for RS1600i runners?
