Porsche don't want the 911 to be superceeded as their main brand. So if a 911 can't beat a Ferrari in a straight fight you have to have BoP.
We have LMP for a pure technical fight. GT is a branding exercise.

Well we have reached an impasse and that is fine; I really could care less about branding exercises because it’s just meaningless jingoism. Its salve for the masses of know-nothings who actually believe a BMW could beat a Ferrari. It also allows manufacturers to become lazy and rely on advertising and myth instead of building a better mousetrap and in my opinion no wins in that scenario, least of all the consumer.
