Indeed it's appalling and is a business model that needs to change if F1is to have any form of decent future. Far too much of the sport is focused on greed at a promotional level and I think it's had its day. It's no longer sustainable to allow so much of the income to go away from the teams, tracks etc in such a way that in recent years it's pulling the sport away from the fans. You can't even watch every race live on telly these days without paying Bernie nearly 50 quid a month. Something will have to change.
