Where Did The Old Saloon Cars Go?

Just spent some time last night looking through Frank de Jongs incredible ETCC website. Frank has collected an amazing amount of info on the ETCC, and other International Touring Car championships.

http://homepage.mac.com/frank_de_jong/index.html

Looking through the pics on the site, I was wondering where all these cars are now, and why there doesn't seem to be a Hitstoric Touring Car class in Europe and Britain for these cars? The period I am talking about is that up to the mid seventies.

There are just masses of them. Capri RS2600, and RS3100, Escort TC, RS1600, BMW 2002, CS 2800, CSL 3.0, Opel Commodore, Manta, Alfa GTAM, GTA, Hilman Imp, Camaro, Cuda, Mustang, Falcon, Porsche 911, NSU, Fiat etc etc etc. The teams, Zakpeed, Alpina, Autodelta, Broadspeed, Schnitzer, Koln, etc. I could go on and on.

Where are they all now? A series for these cars would be fascinating. But the cars themselves seem to have vanished. Adding them up from the mid sixties to the mid seventies, car numbers which competed in the European and British Touring Car races would roll into their hundreds, possibly thousands. I'll set the ball rolling. One Willment Escort TC, a works 1972 Capri RS2600, works 1973 RS2600, works 1974 RS3100, are all based in New Zealand. 10/10ths contributor Camaroz owns the Frank Gardner '67 Camaro.

Where are the rest of them?
