Its not really clear. Im just guessing here as to what could come of the partnership but Honda seems to be interested in Sportscar racing. They have been very Bipolar first being all for it with the ALMs program and Acura's P2/P1 then stepping back but really sticking around and allowing Wirth Research to build this current HPD P1 car.
I think they have interest. In addition they would get to compete with Toyota on the grand scale. So it's possible *speculation* for 2014.
I think the Japanese are interested in top level racing because Toyota and Honda used to race in Formula one. Proto's can be a cheaper alternative.
