V8 Supercars are at a roadblock over the question of whether they will be back on the Australian Formula One grand prix undercard next year.

After the contract to run non-championship support races at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne expired earlier this month, talks between Gold Coast-based V8 Supercars Australia and the Australian GP Corporation have ceased.

Why has this happened? According to the sport's decision makers, the sticking point is the grand prix date for next year. Also, there are more urgent matters on the table, such as the domestic broadcast rights, which are up for renewal this year.

There is no specific deadline for a decision on whether incumbent rights holder Channel 10 will retain the contract or it will go to another network.

Cochrane expects that the stalemate should be sorted out by next month.
