Holden did it with an Ashtray SRI too. The entered it as a VXR so they could fit all the sexy bits to it.
I'm pretty sure one of the proddy Fords running around has seen action both as a GT

Theoretically you could buy a wrecked old-gen STI and throw its running gear under the Roland-sponsored Impreza RS hatch that ran this year.
