History and present seems to disagree with you. Look at manufacturer teams in F1, all but BMW had a title sponsor and liveries made accordingly with the sponsor in mind. Or look at WSPC/IMSA heydays (well, excluding Mercedes'). And look especially at Porsche's past liveries.
It's probably more about sponsors not coming to the teams with big enough bag of money (big enough for title sponsoring). Hopefully not yet.
