I seem remember reading on the sportscarworld/totalmotorsport.com website after the '99 race they had the 'conspiracy theory' that
three crashed CLKs were at the factory for storage/repair. The Webber car wrecked in warm-up and the Dumbreck 'flying' car were two, so the third was either a car which had flipped during one of the private tests or the car which Webber flipped in qualifying and a subsequently swapped for a whole new car for the race (against the rules...)
At Pre-Qual '99 one of the Mercs also had a crash officially due to 'suspension failure' but maybe that took to the air..?
