Compulsory pitstops equals fabricated racing, racing is not about malfunctioning rattle guns, stuck wheel nuts or fuel spillages, let the teams prepare the car, if in a longer race they need to stop for fuel or feel that a tyre change will benefit laptimes enough to compensate for the time lost in the pit stop then that's up to them.
The main consequence of compulsory pitstops seems to be to totally confuse the spectators at the circuit who don't have the advantage of TV commentary or lapboards.
