As far as I know a Touring Car has to have 4 doors and a roof, and must comply with a fairly tight rule set that would vary from place to place (i.e. country).
Since Touring Car classes tend to be quite large they tend to fit a certain format, i.e. modified but within a fairly strict set of rules (not over the top like the old Super GT's which was pretty much unlimited really, wasn't it?)
My favourite (as I've said many times) was Owen Evans in his Porsche Le Mans - 300+ km/h down the back straight of Pukekohe! But that was definitely NOT a Touring Car...
