Pit & Paddock

I didn't go on Friday (it was a very long weekend for some) so missed out on the Uk Formula Ford race and the Friday Shoot Out, but early Saturday morning saw my usual first visit to pit and paddock! By coincidence, the first picture I took was competitor no.1 for the first race of the day! The Mallock Mk20B of Mark Charteris, soon to be heading out for the first 8 Clubs Revival Race - Group 1. I have to say that my knowledge of Mallocks is more than usually negligible, so I have no idea what year this car was built in. I'm sure the Mallocks would make a long, fascinating and complex archive thread!:

Good to see the old and the new rubbing shoulders. The Lotus Cortina of Michael Steele, Nigel Vaulkhard's 2-litre engined Mk1 Escort and the Seat of Harry Vaulkhard, all three bound for the 8 Clubs Revival Race - Group 2:

A real bit of history here. The 1962 Le Mans TVR Grantura of Daniel Nash, also destined for the same race as the above 3 cars!:-

I hope that you can read this as it was taken through the glass, but I'll tell you anyway! The steering wheel boss says:-

TVR Grantura MK3
YFR 751
Le Mans 24 hours June 1962
Goodwood TT August 1962
Driver - Peter Bolton.

Why only Bolton for Le Mans? Well Sanderson who was to share the car, didn't get to drive it, since it overheated after only 3 laps and retired! However, as many of you will know they teamed up again the following year to take the then new AC Cobra (hard top) Coupe to a fine 7th overall!
