NZ leg of A1GP in serious doubt
The New Zealand round of the A1GP is looking increasingly doubtful with the governing body unable to find a commercial backer.
Speculation has been rife in the motorsport world after the governing body struggled to find a commercial backer.
Asia-Pacific regional manager Greg Eaton says it is doubtful. He says they are yet to make a decision but it will be based on the commercial prospects.
Doubt had surrounded the staging of a New Zealand event after Gary Dawson stepped down as CEO.
Eaton says Dawson approached them as a promoter. He says they had been in discussions with Dawson's company but the timeframe was not appropriate.
Dawson, who also works as the CEO of Waikato rugby, says he had hoped to have reached an agreement. He says because of his rugby commitments the timing meant it was impossible for him to do both.
Organisers have until the end of the month to make a decision.
The 2010 season starts at the end of October on the Gold Coast.
