Or no one wanted to do business with him? Toyota had a legal battle over their hybrid technology with someone else claiming they patented the solution in 1994. Toyota ended up settling with the man for an undisclosed amount. So its not unthinkable that a person can have an idea, patent it but not have the means to put it in motion. Then looking at the example I gave, it wouldn't be a good idea for a manufacturer to take this patented idea unless they can buy him off. That is if it works. Time will tell.
