There may be a degree of flexibility within the Scottish Classics (SC) regulations, however I don’t think that they should be regarded as a free-for-all which accepts non-compliance.
Whist I am not a competitor, or an official, I have heard of instances where changes have been enforced; spoiler removal, fuel injection replaced by carburettors, and over-width wheel rims replaced by a narrower version. Also, all cars must have a current MOT certificate.

Many of the SC cars are eligible for, and do attend races run by other series.
This year, and in the past, SC competitors have entered CSCC, HSCC
and Masters events.

The reputed >£100K cost of a Ford Escort is surely a matter for that car’s owner.
Other drivers compete in cars which may have a tenth of that value, or less, but they enjoy themselves and don’t see the expenditure of others as a barrier to their own participation. I’m sure that people with ‘genuine historics’ are welcome
to join them.
