klaus should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Tim, you are great!
Indeed, it is the Tavenor, which Raymond Nash raced in 1968 extensivly in England, but even twice on the old Nürburgring.
At the beginning, this car was a Marcos Fastback works car, which competed at 500km endurance race at the Ring in 1963, and there is a nice story from John Sutton in the internet, remembering this race against the Abarths.
Raymond Nash bought the Marcos later the year and raced it all over Europe in some major events, including the 1000km at the Ring in 1964, the 500km in 1964 and 1965.
A year later, when a broken half-shaft destroyed the rear of the plywood-monocoque, he decided to built this prototype, lower and wider and with stronger engine, from the remains of the chassis. He even was so keen to design a rather complex independent rear suspension.
At the end of 1968 ,the car was stored away in a garden house and remained untouched for 30 years. Raymond Nash raced with Tony Goodwin the Redex Special (Chevron B with removed top) with much success. The Tavenor, when recovered, still had all the scruteneering cards hanging at the wiper-button at the dash-board, also wearing its last racing numbers on the peeling paint.
Now it is restored , keeping it as it was in its last races (with removable roof)and beeing the only race-car in the world with a homologated wooden rollbar.
The picture shows it in the paddock at the Ring after the 500km in 1968, and how it looks today.
(Any old pictures anywhere?)
