If that happened Chevy would walk away, they have said they want nothing to do with tube frame GT1.
I don't know what purpose-built prototypes have to do with Detroit not running LMPs. Purpose-built cars, as far as I'm concerned, have won Le Mans every year since at least 1954.

Not the chassis, the engines, powering the vehicles.
Ford and Chevy both got their most famous wins, in the old World Championship of Makes, with high performance prod. engines.
