Chevron tub numbers are the same as the chassis number, so not having a plate is not the end of the world.
Stamped somewhere, and I've no idea if there was a consistent policy on where, on the tub itself, should be a two digit number or even B27-??
You may have to strip the tub to find it, and of course one of those pesky holes might have gone right through it, but that is the best place to start.
